Oh, daddy!
We love a good indie gay film (keyword: good), and by the looks of it, Daddy has it all — situational office comedy, coming-of-age realness, intergenerational love and lots of drama.
What’s not to love?
Certainly not its director and star, Gerald McCullouch — that’s for sure.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
You might recognize McCullouch from the Bear City trilogy, he’s just as strapping in this project.
He’s joined by the film’s screenwriter Dan Via, Smash’s Jaime Cepero, Tamlyn Tomita, Tony-winner John Rubenstein, Jay Jackson and Mackenzie Astin in a cast that looks like it’ll deliver the laughs and the gasps.
Here’s the film’s general plot:
Colin McCormack thinks he has it all — a great job, a steady stream of hot younger guys, and a best friends whose devotion he takes for granted. But when a charming and mercurial intern sweeps him off his feet, Colin sees a chance for something more: A family of his own. What he discovers instead is a shattering secret that may cost Colin everything — and everyone — he holds dear.
Escandalo!

Bear City? You mean that movie about a twink and a muscle queen that is for some reason called “bear” city but has nothing to do with them?

I just watched this movie last night. It is surprisingly good. A little bit twisted (when you watch it, you’ll know what I mean). I’ve watched many a bad gay themed movies (the bad ones typically being American movies), so I was pleasantly surprised. I’d recommend watching it.
I also watched another cute little movie on Netflix last night called 4th Man Out about a guy who comes out to his three straight best friends. After an awkward period, they try to find newly out gay dude a man. And it goes well….NOT!!! LOL. It’s a funny movie, and I enjoyed watching Parker Young (dumb jock Ryan Shay on Surburgatory and Randy Hill on Enlisted) play a more adult role and not the dumb jock. I’d recommend this movie as well.

The movie’s OK. I’d much rather see a reality show about his real life, including his relationship with that out gay basketball player who’s now at Seton Hall. How often do gay people get to see that kind of relationship, or even see what it’s like for a brave young athlete who has come out? Too many gay movies and shows don’t show the reality of how many gay people live; not everyone is young, or thin, or upper-middle-class, or white, or attractive, or perfectly abled. This actor’s real life is far more interesting.

@Kangol: The Basketball player’s name is Derrick Gordon. Not to mention he’s only 22 and Gerald McCullouch is 50….almost 30 years old than him. I dunno how you left that part out.
Kangol
@Cee: Thanks for that info, Cee. Yes, Derrick Gordon. Actually I’d love to see a film about his life. I have no problem with May-December romances.

Great, another bad gay film. Bear city was god awful, Gerald can’t act. You want to see good gay cinema? Watch stranger by the lake, torch song trilogy or bound. Some of these current gay films are so cliche.

Or hell watch bear cub. That was actually good. I weep for current gay cinema.
