Daily Aural: The Killers

Of all the slow slides into celebrity-fueled self-delusion, The Killers’ Brandon Flowers has to be our favorite. In the latest Killers video, Flowers runs around in a red codpiece like a latter-day (get it? cuz he’s Mormon) Ziggy Stardust singing about– oh who cares? You stopped reading at “codpiece.”

Is this what Carnivale looks like in Salt Lake City?

Not The Killers best effort.

He’s sort of like the Lady Gaga of his own genre, isn’t he? Always twelve steps ahead of his own deserved celebrity. And both so eager to evoke the Bowie!

He is still easy on the eyes, however…And I do generally enjoy the track.

Self-delusion or self-recognition? People like Flowers and Bowie don’t wait to be deemed deserving, they grab it by the balls. That’s how it should be. There’s already enough *boring* to go around, so it’s nice to see this.

Wow, the overall crappiness in the video may be intentional, but it doesn’t make it any better. At least we finally have an answer for the question: “What would happen if David Bowie and Orgazmo had a child?”

Didn’t Brandon Flowers pretty much start out at celebrity-fueled self-delusion and head for the basement from there? That’s what’s so awesome about him.

I think people who come from fucked up religious backgrounds tend to make some of the most innovative, creative and provocative artists. Take talent and sexuality, then mix them with the twisted teachings, shame, abuse and the tormented thoughts that result from a freaky religious upbringing and you’ve got the makings of a great artist.

@michael:
Brandon is actually a practicing Mormon and he’s still into his religion.. he’s even said that he hates it that it’s almost taboo now to be a rock star and still hold on to your religious beliefs.. so what’s your sayer, whether true or not (which i personally think is not) is not applicable to his case.. I’m not a mormon, nor am I even Christian… I’m just saying
