If you wonder how nightlife personalities actually make a living, understand that a bulk of their revenue comes from getting paid just to show up. Which is what Lady Bunny, the Village People’s Randy Jones, and sassy rapper Cazwell were planning on doing in Dallas on Thursday for a gay Cotton Bowl party, hosted each year to watch a ceremonial college football game scheduled as a precursor to Sunday’s Super Bowl. Except nobody bought tickets. Well, 13 of you did. So organizers are canceling the event — but Saturday and Sunday’s parties are still a go.
Aw, they even released a trailer and everything:
McMike
Did I miss something? Queerty is whining about how no one bought tickets, blamed it on gay people not wanting to see Cazwell nor Lady Bunny, put up a trailer that showed “everything” but the trailer is of a straight club showing a bunch of typical big breasted chicks? Hmmm, if I was a gay man I don’t think I’d buy tickets after seeing this trailer. Next time Queerty wants to start blaming NYC gay celebrities for a party tanking, they might want to offer up a video that wasn’t a total 180 from anything a gay man would want to attend.
McMike
btw, if Queerty was a person in a club I, and I think most others, would avoid this person at all costs because he’d be just another bitch, bitter, whiny queen in the corner ragging on anyone who happens to be having more fun than he is.
Josh
I live in Dallas. Whoever promoted this party did a piss-poor job. I happened to see an ad for it in one of the rags, but nobody I spoke to had any idea this party was happening. And what college football game is supposed to be played? The season ended a month ago???
brandon
queerty has officially gone to shit.
Kent
There isn’t a college football game that serves as a a precursor to the Super Bowl. The Cotton Bowl this year was on Jan 7th, played not in the actual Cotton Bowl but in Arlington Stadium, Jerry Jones’ football orgy house. An SEC team beat a team from Texas, and water was wet and sunshine was warm.
Says the queer that loves college football and Queerty, warts and all.
Relevant stories with correct facts would be awesome!
VanceMan
Why was this “story” even posted? How is this even a story?
Lady Bunny
Queerty needs to get it’s facts straight. You’re so eager to pounce on performers in the gay community that you lie? With all of the real controversies going on, why drum up fake ones unless you are as McMike said “another bitchy, whiny queen” who no one would pay to show up anywhere.
I don’t know about Randy Jones, but Cazwell and I were hired to perform at this event. Not to just show up. Perform. I also dj for a living. How could Queerty possibly claim to know how any of us make the “bulk of our income”? Though I haven’t watched the trailer the event was put on by straight people who obviously didn’t hit upon the right combo to sell tickets and as Josh from Dallas commented it was poorly promoted. And Queerty’s take on this is to blame the performers and claim that they don’t perform? Sad. Not clever. Not funny. Just mean, sad and incorrect. Maybe that’s the whole point of this site?
no thanks
I wouldn’t pay to see cazwell or lady bunny do anything. I guess it’s a relevance thing?

Umm..I live in Dallas and this is the first I heard about this! I wouldn’t have gone because I’m out of town this week and next, but I would have passed it on to all of my friends and I’m sure them and my partner would have been there with bells on their toes. Sounds like it’s an issue with bad marketing, not the gays not wanting it!

Lady Bunny is a great performer, i enjoyed seeing her many many times. The 2 times i’ve seen cazwell, well lets just say the crowd was underwhelmed. He stands and tries his hardest to look sexy and well he’s not. His rapping is not very good and his beats are very low budget.
Maybe they should’ve spent $ on someone who’s close to Lady Bunny’s talent?
Michael
I also live in Dallas and this is the very first that I am hearing of this. So sad too…I love you Lady Bunny! xox

JD and Queerty, you got this wrong on so many levels…
-It sounds like there was poor advertising done.
-It sounds like the organization running this event wanted a GLBT presence but didn’t really work all that hard to promote within the GLBT community.
-College football is over and done. The name may be misleading, but basic reading comprehension will show that this was a party for GLBTs, not to watch a college bowl game.
-Who the hell goes out to a major party on a Thursday night? Or am I missing something? Seemed like a lame way to incorporate the GLBT folk into the larger weekend festivities. What a poor decision to have a GLBT-only event with little relation to the rest of the weekend.
-Lady Bunny, Cazwell, and the Village People? Really? Was that the best they could do for entertainment? The game is a hop away from Dallas, and this was the best they could offer the GLBT community? A mediocre rapper most of us know nothing about, a drag queen/DJ and a disco group from the 70s? This sounds like a small-town Pride event lineup rather than a event part of a multi-day Superbowl party.

So someone failing to do good promotion is news?
Caz is so NY, it’s hard to imagine him connecting with Dallas anyway.

@Lady Bunny: You tell em Bunny!

I don’t want to jump on the Angry bandwagon, but it seems like you purpoely misinterpreted a couple facts just to reach some snarky conclusion.
First, Lady Bunny and Cazwell don’t “get paid just to show up.” I’m sure whoever wrote this piece knows that. They entertain, and personally I think they’re both pretty great. (Lady Bunny is flat-out fabulous, and anybody who slams Cazwell, IMHO, has a stick up their butt.) But “get paid to entertain” wasn’t quite as nasty as you wanted, right?
Second, you blame the slow ticket sales on “Lady Bunny, Cazwell, College Football.” Uh, you think maybe NOBODY HEARD ABOUT THIS PARTY might have played a role? You think a promo video stocked with sad HETEROS might have discouraged all of us?
Sure, sometimes a news story doesn’t really fit the fast-and-sassy sound bite mold, but that doesn’t mean you can warp the facts until it does.
Mike
I’m absolutely not a fan of Cazwell (he isn’t half as hot or talented as he thinks he is) but I wouldn’t mind seeing Lady Bunny.
McMike
@Lady Bunny: Hey Lady Bunny! I used to do the club kid photo collages back in ’06 & ’07 and posted them on MySpace. I got you a couple of times while you were dj’ing with you modeling your headphones. I was known as “McMike” back then.

@no thanks: It is beyond annoying to hear people rip into others. I didn’t know Lady Bunny that well, but I used to hang with Cazwell sometimes and he is one of the nicest guys in the NYC nightlife scene. The reason why these people are so popular, besides the talent they posses, is because they’re some of the nicest people in NYC. I bet you work for Queerty because you sound just like another bitchy, whiny queen.

I’ve seen Cazwell perform in a club before, he puts on a fun show.
