So what if a dude just wants to go get his conservative mack on? Thanks to GOProud and the mass exodus it caused, this year’s CPAC is probably going to be the most gay tolerant ever! And maybe he’ll find a Republican sugar daddy to take care of his expenses.

greenluv1322
Okay so he is a Republican…that makes sense. Even if not he is free to do as he pleases, he’s not in the military anymore so he’s not taking orders from anyone!
Right Wingers Are Socioptahs (John From England)
@greenluv1322:
I agree. I dont like the guy as I always thought he was a rightie but why is anyone so shocked? They went kerazy over at Joe my god. It was like their little hero is right wing!
That’s the problem with people obsessed with putting their projections on others and making them out to be a messiah.
Spike
Well now that DADT is over, he’s got to find some controversy otherwise he’ll never been on MSNBC again.
Fitz
If he goes to CPAC, I am 100% over him.
justiceontherocks
I’m sure he and that GOProud guy with the funny nose will have a great time together.
josh
I agree that you could tell he was a Republican long ago. His hatred of Obama was too irrational and extreme considering Obama has been the most pro-gay president ever (signing hate crimes bill which was first federal gay right, advocating for and signing repeal of dadt, extending hospital visitation rights to gay couples).
Norman
Lt. Choi, do as you think is right. You have been a remarkable spokesperson for our cause.
Gays come in all stripes, and that is what makes us such a wonderful diverse group of Americans!
I stand with you!
Paul
If he wants to be part of a party that wants to take away his rights, then he is free to do so.
tjr101
Well that certainly explains it all, not once did he heckle the republicans for their support in repealing DADT. Now that the dems have given him what he wants he’s going to party with GOProud for more tax cuts.
TheRealAdam
He can do as he pleases, and align himself with whatever political party he likes. Gays are too hell-bent on criticizing and damning anyone who does not think in some sort of Democratic liberal lockstep with them. Get over yourselves.
testington
could somebody explain what this article is talking about in English? As a person with dyslexia I find these endless abbreviations and acronyms used on twitter and in articles like this almost impossible to comprehend.
gngltf cc11 cpac11 I mean what?
Seriously?
Who gives a shit?! Why is everyone so concerned over this? Reading the comments on this website usually does make me lose brain cells, but this post takes the cake. Wishing death on someone for their political choices that are completely irrelevant to your life? Grow the fuck up.
Righwingers are sociopaths (John from England)
@tjr101: @josh:
Exactly. Which I have been saying for ages!! It didn’t make sense but the lefty gays were all OVER him and you couldn’t say sh*t!
Tom in Lazybrook
I’m so glad Dan Choi is hanging out with a group of guys that supported exactly 2 or 3 candidates out of hundreds of races that supported DADT repeal.
Perhaps Thain offered to pay him money.
I say, let GOProud’s Republican buddies introduce legislation to stop the DOD from collecting half his enlistment bonus.
Carlos
@Fitz:
What a horrible abusive statement.
ewe
I am in the dark on this one. I don’t even get the ruckus. Dan Choi is a military soldier. Why would anyone think that is anything but conservative?
Brian Miller
All the critics are right. Why should he or anybody else try to build natural support up in the other major party?
We should remain the marginal lap dogs of the Democrats, who have fought so vigorously for us and brought us national marriage equality, the repeal of DOMA, the passage of ENDA, and every other overwhelming victory that we’ve had the last twenty years.
By being firmly and exclusively in the camp of 35% of the voters and ignoring the 25% who are Republicans and the rest who are independents, we’re certain to win a majority!
And Choi should be especially ashamed of himself for daring to confront conservatives at CPAC and change hearts and minds. Why the idiot probably thinks that if he works hard enough, conservatives like Ted Olsen will be fighting to overturn Prop 8 or something.
John (CA)
I imagine this isn’t news to Rachel Maddow or Bill Maher.
Liberals in the media and Mr. Choi happened to agree on DADT.
Agreeing with someone on a single issue does not make it an alliance, covenant, or anything of that nature. Now that the discriminatory law has been repealed, I would say it is time for everyone to go their separate ways. Which is what they seem to be doing anyhow. If Dan Choi starts lobbying MSNBC to let him express his views on abortion, I doubt they’d even put him on the air.
Shannon1981
I don’t see why anyone is surprised by this. While by and large, for obvious reasons, most gays despise republicans, not all do…and it has always been glaringly obvious that this man is an exception to that rule. I can’t stand right wingers, and I think any member of ANY minority is Uncle Tommish in voting with them, period.
whatever
I knew this fag was a rethug. he never, ever criticized any conservative no matter how homophobic the person was.
Cindy
Perhaps it’s my German heritage, but I’m so much more enjoying the Schadenfreude from seeing the discomfort that GOProud is causing for the CPAC crowd than I am upset that Choi is, perhaps, a conservative.
Plus, think strategically folks. How does it hurt our cause to have members in both parties who recognize and will vote for our rights? So, we won’t get a majority of them. We won’t get 100% of the Dems either and the few GOP votes could make up for those Dems we don’t get. I’d take that.
Skeptical Cicada
@josh: Next time you decide to insult our intelligence by cutting and pasting from DNC talking points, just don’t. There’s been plenty in this administration for progressive gays to criticize, starting with the constant stream of DOMA briefs that–solely for political reasons–assert that we have basically no constitutional right to equality.
And I’m really tired of the mindless meme about Barack Obama being a more pro-gay president than, say, Chester Arthur. It is an absurdly ahistorical comparison.
reason
@ewe: There is lots of liberals in the Armed forces from enlisted right on up to generals. McChrystal the general Obama had to fire is politically and socially liberal and cast his ballot for the president. Gen Wesley Clark ran for president as a democrat and the list goes on. The idea that a liberal can’t support a strong national defense was a republican myth to make democrats look weak.
What I can’t understand is why people are still drooling over this worthless no nothing named Dan Choi. I don’t care what his political ideology is, he needs assistance with his mental health.
justiceontherocks
@reason: There “IS lots of liberals;” “worthless NO nothing . . .”
Quit commenting on one of the many things you know nothing about – another person’s mental health – and spend your time learning the English language.
Brian Miller
You’ve got to love Choi’s detractors. He cuffed himself to the White House, got arrested, and put his career on the line to get DADT repealed. They, on the other hand, are much smarter and more mentally stable than he, because they… post on internet forums.
[email protected]
Ah, “reason.” We see two things remain constant:
1. You’re still too big a coward to sign your actual name when you attack people [by name] you disagree with.
2. You’re mail is still addressed: c/o Obama’s asshole.
Nathan
I just have to ask, what have Republican congressman or presidents ever done for gays?
Robbie K
Dan Choi attempts to stay in spotlight…countdown to next hospital visit…
Shannon1981
I just don’t understand queers supporting Republicans. It is beyond me. But like I said, no surprise. Though he was a useful face for DADT repeal. Now that he has served his purpose, he can fade.
Lee
I was happy that he was speaking out against DADT so boldly, but he always came off a bit obnoxious and now I know why.
Jeffree
I could see Choi going to CPAC to network, instigate or report –MAYBE– but has he *actually* become a member of GoProud as well???
Owen
LoL @ how presumptuous everyone is being.
Where on EARTH has Choi proclaimed his Republicanism/conservatism?
He’s simply attending CPAC. So do a lot of *liberals*.
Try not jumping the gun.
Right Wingers Are Socioptahs (John From England)
@Skeptical Cicada:
Tell me EXACTLY what Obama has done that is anti-gay in comparison to Dubya your saviour.
Now please.
Right Wingers Are Socioptahs (John From England)
@[email protected]:
What have republican congress men and presidents ever done for gays?
But to be fair you are military so your idea of fun is shooting darkies in order to save them from their socialist selves!
Right Wingers Are Socioptahs (John From England)
@Owen:
How do YOU know he isn’t? At least we use evidence, what has Choi done that has made you think he is liberal? God his fans are relentless!@Brian Miller:
Right after you take your mouth from YOUR asshole.
whatever
@Owen: name one republican he has criticized.
Jeffree
Let me ask the question again: Has Choi joined GoProud or become a spokesperson?
The Q’ty article, as usual, provides little detail.
Thanks!
Richard
@testington: NGLTF’s CC11 is the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Creating Change conference for 2011 which is being held in Minneapolis Feb. 2-6. It is billed as “the premier annual organizing and skills-building event for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and their allies.”
CPAC11 refers to the Conservative Political Action Conference which is sponsored by The American Conservative Union, The National Rifle Association, Citizen Link (formerly Focus on the Family Action) and others. It is scheduled for Feb. 10-12 in Washington D.C. Featured speakers include: Rep. Michelle Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Ann Coulter, Ron Paul & Rand Paul, Rick Santorum and Donald Rumsfeld.

@John (CA):
“I imagine this isn’t news to Rachel Maddow or Bill Maher.”
Agreed, yet curious that Rachel never brought the topic up. And agree with a previous comment in reference to it now makes sense why he always had such a hatred toward Obama. Last I recall it was the republicans that used DADT to throw all the gays out in the first place. He’s just another republican self-hating gay!
Cam
Oh please, DADT is done and he is is going to show the whole “Gay Military” thing. I have no problem with him trying to make converts in the other party if it’s available. I’m not sure how much good it will do, but I like the idea of the anti-gay groups not being there and “Us gays” having somebody there in uniform daring them to call him a coward.
Jeffree
We’re making a lot of assumptions: that Dan is going to CPAC because he agrees with them, that he is associated with GoProud and that he is conservative/republican, etc.
Was that in the article? Can anyone confirm why he’s there & in what capacity?
Shannon1981
@Jeffree: After your original question, I did some looking. While he has said he is going to CPAC, there is no evidence and/or confirmation of his actually being a member of GoProud. However, whether he says it or not, I still think he is a Republican. There is no other real explanation for his Obama hate. So no matter what capacity he is attending CPAC in, I still think he is an Uncle Tom.
IE
It’s been clear for a while now that “hero” Choi is mentally unstable. This comes as no surprise to me.
Jeffree
@Shannon1981: thanks for the research.
Wouldn’t surprise me if he was Republican but I doubt he’d jump from, GetEqual to GoProud.
I’m still fascinated that we here jumped to so many conclusions (starting with the first comment) based on so little info! And we still don’t know in what capacity Choi’s attending CPAC or why……..
Shannon1981
@Jeffree: LOL that’s what we do best around here. We like raking people over the coals.
This guys is obnoxious, no doubt, but we cannot deny that he was a good face for DADT repeal. But, to that end, that is over now, and I am really curious what he is doing going to CPAC, and what his affiliations with these GoProud people are…and furthermore, why is there no information on this?
And you’re welcome…I am really curious what this dude is about. Is he a famewhore? Probably. Is he a Republican? More than likely. Uncle Tom? Remains to be seen…
adman
@Cindy: Well said, partisanship is a conservative win every time in our country with the “left” ratifying newer and more Republican policies every day. It’s called incremental strategy, and it’s a proven working strategy that no partisan can acknowledge, Dan Choi included. Let him go and try to use the masters tools, I don’t care. I love seeing the culture warriors lose their shit again and again with guys like him hanging around their party. I love the smell of irony in the morning, tell me about that overton window again cracker baptist bigots! I’d love to hear your take complete with the conspiracy theories and everything!
reason
@[email protected]: Oh poor you, what are you going to do now that you can’t exploit your fathers (a hero’s) grave site for political purposes. I am sure it spurns your chaps that Obama is ending DADT, and now you have nothing to keep yourself relevant. You probably thought you were going to die as some sort of hero also, turns out that you have just been dead wrong about everything. Choi will just be remembered as the fool that hopped on stage and demeaned himself in front of the senate majority leader: Reid should have uppercutted Choi off that stage. In a show of sorrow for Choi’s lowly state Reid, being the classy gentleman that he is, did his best to cover for a man that is clearly missing several screws. Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Mullen, and Gates are the ones that will be enshrined in history as the hero’s of the GBLT movement. The majority of GBLT have never even heard of Choi, and after your gone there will be no one here to pimp the irrational version of events that you believe.
Brian Miller
The hatred and intolerance expressed towards Dan Choi by some partisans in this discussion is identical to the sort of hatred and intolerance that Brian Brown and Maggie Gallagher express towards married gay people. Two sides of the same coin.
