So that’s done: Lt. Dan Choi, a continuing ulcer for the Obama administration, will have time to become a professional activist. He’s been officially kicked out of the military for telling the world he’s A Gay.
Choi’s National Guard unit notified him by mail and phone call that as of June 29 he was no longer an American soldier, capping a lengthy and very public battle with the Pentagon over its discriminatory policy. In the end, Choi engaged in a hunger strike, civil disobedience at the White House, and the administration’s most upsetting role: public advocate.
At least he doesn’t have a criminal record?
Kieran
That’ll teach him to speak out for liberty and justice for all. He was supposed to FIGHT for those ideals in the Middle East—NOT here in America! What a homo.
Mike L.
I hope he’s all right, he has a lot more time now to be an advocate for civil rights. Thanks Dan Choi for your service to our country in and out of uniform.
Now that that’s said, he is so hot 🙂
reason
I think he got what he was looking for, taking into account his behavior he no longer wanted to be in the service. He is like a Jihadist, but looking for his virgins as a martyr in the Gay community. No news here.
AndrewW
Choi has been hired by GetEQUAL to be an activist. $85,000 a year, plus travel expenses. That’s a lot more than he was making in the US Army.
James UK
@AndrewW:
Well that makes everything ok then!
I bet you couldn’t be happier for him.
Jason_Activist
Dan Choi can now become our MLK. He doesn’t have to worry about money with the $85,000 Salary and he’s got time to give his great speeches.
Our Movement has needed a Leader and Dan Choi is so courageous. It takes real guts to stop traffic or wear handcuffs. A few more of this civil disobedience and the President will give us our equality.
Thank-you Dan Choi for blazing a path to equal rights.
Cam
And now will come the Gay Inc.. folks to attack Choi, I hear that the latest rumor they are trying to spread is for people to suggest that his hunger strike somehow made him “Unbalanced”, Real Classy guys.
Apparently it is an even larger crime in their eyes, to interupt Gay Inc’s cocktail parties to ask them to fight for our rights, than it is to be anti-gay.
Matteo
The snarky assed writer of this blurb is a jackass AND a moron if he thinks just because Dan has been discharged that he’s done fighting for gay rights. Seriously, Besides writing questionably reliable, snarky comments for this web rag, what are you doing to further the cause?
ctownlee
Pissed as hell to see anyone kicked out under DADT. That being said, they should have kicked him out for violating standing orders, conduct unbecoming and being a general embarrassment to Army and to Gays in the Military. Way to go on the job though, nothing like turning being a professional self proclaimed martyr into a money making venture, when does the shitty book and b rate movie come out? We will see how many of these “heroes” come back to serve once DADT is gone. I’m not holding my breathe
Cam
@ctownlee:
Funny, Obama is commander in Chief and told people to keep pressuring him on DADT. So I’m curious. how did he violate standing orders when he was following a request by the highest military authority in the nation?
Oh P.S. I see GAY INC.’s tactics have changed. Since they don’t have any luck just coming in and trying to convince people of their opinions, they now just go through and click a thumbs down on any comment that doesn’t reflect the viewpoint that raising funds to hold cocktail parties and not pressuring anybody to do anything is good for gay rights.
Ted B.
His 15-minutes of fame were over a long-time ago. He probably did more damade than good for those gay members of the Armed Services who just want to serve their country honorably. Now he’s free to be the cog in “Gay, Inc.” that he really wanted to be…not a soldier.
Depending on the type of discharge, he still might have some legal-impediments if it’s less than an “Honorable Discharge”.
Michael @ LeonardMatlovich.com
We see Queerty is still invested with Obama Cockroaches who will knife anyone who dares criticize him, headed by “Andrew W” who’s too cowardly to print his actual name as he throws shit at others AND LIES ABOUT THEM!
Above he LIES and claims Dan is being paid $85,000 [he’s not]. On JMG, he’s claiming that Dan is being paid $90,000.
GEE, a $5,000 raise in on day on a non-existent salary.
Andrew: Walgreen’s called and your haloperidol prescription is ready. Safeway called and they REALLY want their shopping cart back!

Really Ted? What I notice is that you are saying he probably harmed gay service members but don’t seem to be able to articulate why. Well here is what I noticed.
The White House and GAY Inc. were saying there would be ZERO movement on DADT, NONE. Our “Friend” Barney Frank and the White House had Alcey Hastings Pull his bill to end DADT. HRC even sent out a letter telling gays that we basically didn’t have the right to complain about our rights until after Obama’s 8 years were up.
THEN, Get Equal and Dan Choi started turning up the heat. There were sit in’s in Pelosi’s office, and Choi chaining himself to the White House, as well as Choi appearing on any news show out there and getting very sympathetic coverage. SUDDENLY Congress is pushing through a DADT repeal, the White House tried to avoid it, they finally bowed to pressure and came on board. So again, would you mind telling me how getting the ball rolling on DADT when HRC and all the others had abdicated their role somehow harmed gay service members.
HRC only requires ONE thing of an elected official to leave them completely alone. If you claim to be a “Friend” of the gays, and actually meet with HRC, they will Never, EVER, say one thing to put any pressure on you. We’re just lucky that Get Equal and Choi were a bit less “Polite”.
T.L Miley
He is a true HERO.
Good for you Choi. Gays are NOT one to be messed with. Lol try as you may…we get productive, loud then LOUDER. There is no quit in our fighting spirit.
As an aside, why would anyone want to join the army/military anyway? to defend a system that doesn’t believe in your rights? I’ll pass and so should you.
Riley
Lotta hetro haters on here I see. GAYS…KEEP FIGHTING THESE HETROS! KEEP BLASTING THEM IN THEIR FACES! KEEP TELLING THEM THEIR JESUS IS A MADE UP FABRICATED LIE! They deserve all the sh*t they get and more!
J.C
@Cam: Cam, “Ted B” “CtownLee” “Reason” and “Kieran” are the same poster/person. This is obviously someone in the ranks close to the story pissed off that gays now have a face to attach to this worthy cause. Did you really think LGBT would willing accept being told we have to remain in the closet while we fight for “freedom” on the other hand, I support the idea of not one single homosexual dying in the name of a farce war. Stay home boys (and girls) we need all the numbers on our side.
Jeremy
I am in shocked for some extremely negative comments you people gave to Dan Choi. What exactly has you nasty queens had you done for the community lately? Beside nitpicking other people’s ways of supporting the process repealing DADT? I don’t completely agree with Choi’s tactic. But if DADT is repealed, you have to give a major praise for him, because he’s an undeniably important role. I think he could be our own Malcolm X.
hephaestion
Dan Choi will always be a hero to me.
GetWho?
@AndrewW: Who funds GetEqual? Who is on their paid staff? What are their priorities?
AndrewW
@GetWho?: Jonathan Lewis (Progressive Insurance) funds GetEQUAL. He hired Robin and Kip to “embarrass Democrats.” He also promised Choi a job.
They don’t have a strategy and they haven’t filed their organizational documents. Yesterday’s stunt in Las Vegas is very telling. The NetRoots Convention was being held and GetEQUAL wanted to be the center of attention so they pulled off another childish stunt. It wasn’t about changing the dynamics of our movement, but about their own publicity. It’s juvenile.
GetEQUAL has never generated any real support. They have never had more than a dozen people show up for one of their “calls to action.” Half of the people participating are on the payroll.
Lewis has wasted $500,000 and made our community look stupid. There are many thoughtful organizations that could have done something productive with that money.

Ahhhh, so THIS is now the latest tactic. Try to ignore the fact that Get Equal got a DADT bill started when HRC had abandoned gays, and instead try to make a bunch of cryptic remarks on “But wait! They are a conspiracy! Who is funding them?! They are Evil!”
Look HRC troll, I have news for you. To somebody not “Inside” the activist tent, I can tell you way more about what Get Equal’s priorities are than HRC’s HRC would never release their accurate membership numbers, they claim to have hundreds of thousands of members and yet will not admit to how many of them actually pay dues, and how many have simply bought a bumper sticker or a shirt and are now listed on the membership roles even though they have never once sent in a membership payment.
For HRC to start attacking Get Equal for being secretive is like a Pig trying to call a cat dirty.
I don’t care if Get Equal is funded by Satan and the Queen of Sheba. They forced movement on DADT which previously was a dead subject according to the White House. the fact that you are trying to attack this random detail but have nothing critical to say about the results they’ve achieved speaks VOLUMES. Go back to your cocktail parties at HRC, I think somebody else has the gay rights issue taken care of now.
Shawn
@AndrewW: Ya know, I haven’t commented about you yet…because I am the type of person that tries to find the good part of a person…but I’m starting to see that there is one in you.
You’re an idiot…please do us all a favor and educate yourself. Maybe take a HISTORY course. I recommend a Civil Rights history course as it is more relevant.
None of the major rights movements (women and African-American) in the history of this country won by dressing nicely and going to parties. They were won by civil disobedience. So Andrew is suggesting (along with GayINC) that we stay away from the “tried and true” methods of Dr. King and the courageous women who fought for their rights and just go to gala events.
Andrew, perhaps if there were even a shred of evidence that your method worked I would believe you. The simple fact is up until Pres. Obama we haven’t seen any movement for the last 40+ years. Even now, Obama won’t do a damn thing until we really put pressure on him to do something…and even then it’s small trinkets. It is obvious that you won’t be convinced by my comment, though, since you’re so stuck in your own ways. So perhaps I should just go back to ignoring you…
AndrewW
@Shawn: First I didn’t suggest that HRC-Gay Inc. was working, in fact I know they are not. Second, welcome to 2010 – they world has changed.
Scour your tattered history books and find me an example of protesting or civil disobedience making any difference for anyone in the last 25 years. Just four years ago 6 million people protested in 160 cities across the country about “immigration reform” and since that big protest NOTHING has happened. It doesn’t work – it is a relic from our past.
We have to grow up and learn that this isn’t the 1960s. We have to get people to join us and support us – not run the other way or laugh at us. Almost 90% of the American population believes “protesting” is ineffective. They have grown up. It’s your turn.
AndrewW
As of this morning Dan Choi is claiming he “doesn’t know anything about his discharge.” The NY National Guard says they have a signed return mail receipt from a letter notifying him in June. They also said they have told him in “numerous phone messages.”
Maybe the National Guard is lying? Maybe not.

The White House saying that there would be no movement on DADT this year, backed up by Barney Frank and HRC. Get Equal did sit in’s at congressional offices and suddenly Nancy Pelosi is ramming a DADT repeal down the White House’s throat. There is an example.
AndrewW
@Cam: Are you kidding? GetEQUAL and Dan Choi had nothing to do with the Compromise DADT Repeal, in fact THEY protested against it.
The Community has only laughed or cringed at GetEQUAL’s childish stunts and Choi’s insatiable need for attention.
Try again.
If you really believe in protest and civil disobedience, find some legitimate examples of them being useful or effective during the last 25 years. Make a list for us.
The DADT Compromise is a charade orchestrated by HRC and Democrats to create the appearance of “effort,” it won’t pass and later this year we’l hear “we tried, we really, really tried.”
Cam
@AndrewW:
Andrew, I live in DC, I have friends in both HRC and Get Equal. You are wrong. HRC was completely against doing anything, the White House was Against it. Barney Frank was coming out telling gays to shut up. You yourself said several times on this blog that Get Equal would piss people off and they wouldn’t support us. Well Get Equal did sit in’s in Pelosi’s office, as well as others, and suddenly Congress is pushing the bill. Why would she have done that, if as you claim Get Equal’s tactics would only piss people off and turn them against us.
I get that you don’t agree with their tactics, I really do, but, and I’m being serious here, don’t try to rewrite history, it’s not cool. HRC was completely against pushing anything and you know it, the White House was against doing anything and you know it, and Congress had said not to expect anything. Love them or hate them you cannot deny that somehow, this year a bill got pushed through and at first they were the only ones pushing for it this year.
Scott NYC
@Cam: I have to call bull-shit on that Cam. GetEQUAL and Dan Choi PROTESTED the compromise. Their sitting in Pelosi’s office didn’t effect here and it is a little crazy to suggest that.
Several groups had been working on the Compromise since the Spring. I think the first meeting was in March. I don’t think there even was a GetEQUAL then.
I think some direct action groups can be effective, but GetEQUAL certainly isn’t. they are simply a bunch of spoiled brats creating a nuisance. I don’t think “nusiance” helps us.
