David Cameron is the man who wishes he was British Prime Minister Gordon Brown — but isn't. Cameron is instead the lead of the opposition Conservative Party, who may or may not be in bed with homophobes. But one thing Cameron is? Very, very sorry he ever tried to block schools from talking to kids about homosexuality.
Back in the 1980s, a measure called Section 28 was passed; it stated the government "shall not intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality" or "promote the teaching in any maintained school of the acceptability of homosexuality as a pretended family relationship." Yes, it was repealed in 2003, but at the time Cameron's Conservative Party supported it. Now, speaking for the party, he's apologized for it — at a gay pride event!
But it's not like Cameron suddenly has an affinity for gay persons. He just has an affinity for their votes: Courting the queer constituency is among Cameron's top priorities … 'cause he has to get his party elected and stuff.
One day, maybe America's Republican party will realize that it, too, needs to court the gays, and will apologize for trying to infest the nation with discriminatory legislation. But first, RNC Chairman Michael Steele needs to learn how to identify with black people.

Oh, I just read Cameron, and for a minute I thought it was Paul Cameron.
Although that kinda would be like the Westboro's apologizing.
You forget that two of Cameron's shadow ministers are gay and married to there gay partners. When Cameron becomes Prime Minister they will likely be part of his cabinet. Even Obama isn't that progessive.
It'll take a lot more than an apology for Cameron to win significant support from the UK's LGBT voters; right after the Euroelections he got into bed with some of the most unpleasant right-wing homophobic political parties in Europe. I really don't know who is the worst option out of Cameron and Brown – the idea of either of them winning next year's general election is excruciatingly unpleasant.
Imagine if Cheney run for and won the presidency last November. Yeah, that bad.

Believe it or not, some people make mistakes, and some people do stop hating us once they get to actually know us. Perhaps he honestly believes that he made a mistake in this case. In the 1980s the world wasn't very friendly to gays in general. Hell, it was even worse in this country than in England I'm willing to wager. I would like to believe that in the future of this country we will be accepted by the masses as equals and the churches will come out and apologize for all that hatred they preached for all those years. It never ceases to amaze me how a 2000 year old book can be a basis of ignorance and stupidity when we have the ability to send a man to the moon, help people with cancer, and fit a computer that used to be the size of a room into a cell phone. It just baffles me.
