Celebrity event planner David Tutera and former husband Ryan Jurica have found the perfect an awful solution for the custody battle involving their newborn twins — each man will get one!
It almost goes without saying that this is an incredibly tangled, no-one-really-wins situation. The couple, who married in Vermont in 2003, resided in California, where until this summer same-sex marriage wasn’t legally recognized, so the couple had filed for a domestic partnership. The two men split this past January just six weeks after twins had been conceived using a surrogate. Cedric, a son, and Cielo, a daughter, were born June 19.
According to UK’s Daily Mail, the two men have settled their once explosive feud. Tutera will assume custody of the female twin, Cielo, who is biologically his, while Jurica will take over primary care for Cedric.
Tutera compares relinquishing Cedric to his ex to mourning the loss of a second child, but both men say they want the twins to be in each other’s lives.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Tell us readers, do you think this is this the best solution? Remembering the wisdom of Solomon from our Sunday school lessons, we shudder to think what would have happened if the couple only had one child.

These kids are going to grow up so messed up. They aren’t thinking of what is best for the twins (keeping them together) but what is best for the adults. IT is completely selfish.
mpwaite
What totally self-centered JERKS!! Those poor babies growing up with idiots for parents! I can’t believe THAT is their solution
kevinjabs
The siblings should be together, and whichever of the two is better equipped should be primary with the other receiving liberal visitation
Icebloo
What a couple of selfish losers ! I hope people don’t read about this story and think all gay men are so selfish. They should never have had children – they aren’t decent people.
hrnpip
Breeders do it all the time, it just doesn’t make the news (both custody battles AND people who probably shouldn’t have children to begin with). Why should we be any different? Isn’t that the point of equality? Everyone has the right to be…
jheryn
@hrnpip: That is just stupid. They are assholes for breaking up the twins and it doesn’t matter if they are gay or straight. What kind of idiotic justification is “breeders do stupid stuff so we should too”? This has nothing to do with equality. It has everything to do with right and wrong.
skcord
What kind of f’d up parent trap B.S. is this? Clearly not everyone who has children should be a parent!
Charlie in Charge
Haven’t they seen the Parent Trap?
StephK
Wow! Just as we are cruising along in the battle for marriage equality, these two jerks give our detractors some more bombs to throw. There is no way one can justify breaking up these twins.Joint custody would be more reasonable. Otherwise, this just seems like each a-hole is taking home a prize. This story really embarrasses me as a gay man.

So, so wrong to split the kids up.
Christopher
Gay Rule # 11.You NEVER break up a set.
Brian
This is why gay male couples should never be allowed to adopt.
JAW
Is this a joke?
Did they find this story on “The Onion”???
Shame on them… Having twin sisters and knowing other twins, they share a special bond that should not be broken.
rudyv
@Brian: Brian, your an ASS.. this has nothing to do with gay male couples adopting, this is about two people that are jerks and shouldn’t be parents.
GlitterKidder
Terrible to break up a set…
MikeE
They split a month and a half after the babies were conceived?
So obviously, they should not have considered having children at ALL at that point.
A serious relationship does NOT fall apart completely in a few weeks. They obviously had some serious couple issues before that.
They did what a LOT of straight couples do: have children in the (mistaken) belief that it would fix all of their problems.
I’ll have to say that I agree with other posters who are saying these guys are selfish a$$holes
Larkin
@Brian: They didn’t adopt, they used a surrogate and one of them is the biological father.
That being said, it’s a tosser move to generalize all gay couples. These two clearly had no business having children, but then again, many straight people have no business having children.
ArtNYC
The best thing for the twins is to be adopted by another family. These 2 adults deserve each other, they should stay married and childless.
mz.sam
This the horrible and sad example of parenthood who are no longer a couple, especially when Gays have fought so hard (and still fighting) for marriage equality. And now to drag children into the ugly behavior to what Breeders have made commonplace, if not mundane for decades. This should be a cautionary case in point to all gay couples choosing to have children.
Snapper59
“Celebrity Event Planner” huh. I hope his “business” crashes.
QJ201
KIDS… the latest trend in accessories for upper middle class gays.
MOM: Why aren’t you having kids?
ME: You got 20K to pay for an adoption or surrogate? I don’t.

The article specifies that Tutera is the biological parent of one child, but leaves out whether the Jurica is the father of the other or if they’re both Tutera’s. I’m not sure it matters, but it certainly complicates things. (It’s my understanding that the Neil Patrick Harris/David Burtka “twins” each have a different father, for example.)
But yeah, splitting up twins seems like a total asshole move, treating them as possessions to be divided up instead of children whose needs should come first. Nice job, tools!
AnitaMann
The people commenting on this story are stupid. The article CLEARLY states that each man is getting custody of his own biological child. What the hell is wrong with that?
Quoting from the article:
“But Mr Tutera, 47, revealed in the latest issue of People magazine that the feud is finally over and he was elected custodial parent of Cielo, who is biologically his.”
“Meanwhile, Cielo’s brother Cedric was placed with his biological father, 35-year-old Mr Jurica.”
You people need to grow a brain before you comment on these stories.
Bozen
Old gay men who look more like lesbians than men being embarrassing as always.
BunnyRiot
@hrnpip: Good point. I think the trigger words are twins and babies.
orcanyc
I hope this is a joke because if it isn’t, it’s sort of insane.

The guy on the right has cardiac face, the coloring is off. I hope he has life insurance for his little sprout.
MK Ultra
They are pretty disgusting.
Having a happy successful household involves actual work.
Not just throwing money at it and faking it with ridiculous Christmas cards.
Everything they do is for themselves. The kids are accessories to them.
ChadDarnell
I’m going to be terribly, terribly unpopular and say that I think this is really sad, but I think we might see a lot more of this. I’ve met David several times and he’s a good guy. A simple fact is that close to half of marriages in end in divorce. So presumably, half of non-traditional marriages could end in divorce. They each fathered a child and they were ruled to have custody of their own child. Calling them disgusting and selfist and the other things in this thread are really sad. They were married for nearly 10 years. Trust me… I’m no saint when it comes to commenting on those in the public eye. I will be the first to say that, so don’t bother pointing that out. And I love you, Queerty. But these are two people in a bad situation with children as collateral damage. Can we not be so mean when it involves kids and legal marriage, which is still relatively new to our community?
1EqualityUSA
ChadDarnell, I wouldn’t even separate bonded dogs or cats, hence we brought home two pairs. The thought of splitting twins is heinous. These fucktards give the gay community a bad reputation. Figure it out gentlemen. Dividing the booty and separating twins is not an option. Since the guy on the right is going to be taken out by a cardiac event, send the two sprouts over to the guy on the left. God damn it, if we won’t even adopt bonded dogs or cats apart from one another, can you not grow up and keep these siblings together?
