D.C. Launches Nation’s First Government-Funded Anti-Transgender Discrimination Campaign

The nation’s capital just got more inclusive with a   groundbreaking  ad campaign, backed by the government.

Washington D.C.’s Office of Human Rights has created what LGBT organizations are calling “the first government-sponsored campaign in the nation to focus solely on transgender and gender non-conforming people,” according to OHR director, Gustavo Velazquez.

Velazquez told the Washington Blade the campaign is meant to increase understanding/decrease discrimination of the transgender community,  as well as to encourage the reporting of discrimination in the D.C. area. The Office of Human Rights worked with both local and national organizations to develop the campaign, including the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, Transgender Health Empowerment and the Mayor’s Office of GLBT Affairs.
