D.C.’s Kids Allowed to Read About Gay Penguins and Homosexual Love Affairs

31s2q4hkckl

Reading about homosexuals is kosher enough for school children! After wiping gay-themed books from its student summer reading list this year, the District of Columbia Public Schools has apparently caved to pressure from American Library Association and added nine queer titles to its roster, including And Tango Makes Three, Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You, and The Family Book. Why the about-face? Perhaps because D.C. Public Schools got caught asking the D.C. Public Library which books on its proposed list were GLBT-themed and, after getting an answer, removing each of those titles.

Then the two parties sat down for a little chit chat, and the goodness of the universe was restored for school children.

@julian: just finished reading this book, i really loved it! I really wouldnt call it a gay themed book, the central character was gay, that was about it. His homosexuality was a minute plot point in the grand scheme of things
