There’s even more great news from Delaware this week. During the final floor speeches before the state became the 11th to legalize same-sex marriage, state senator Karen Peterson (D) announced publicly she is lesbian.
During the debate, Peterson proclaimed, “No one chose to be gay. We are what God made us. We don’t need to be fixed. We aren’t broken.”
She added, “My partner Vicki and I have been together for 24 years. Last year, we entered into a civil union…If my happiness somehow demeans or diminishes your marriage, you need to work on your marriage.”
Peterson has a long accomplished record of fighting for equality.
How about we take this to the next level?

Probably the best statement re: pro-marriage I’ve heard in years! Congrats, Karen and Vicki!

Um no. She’s been out for years. Nice to see Queerty just regurgitate false information on gay issues they hear elsewhere:
“I would like to clear up something for the national media, who are already running with this, but Karen Peterson has been out as gay for years. She did not break news today. But hey, who am I to ruin your story?”

Did she even need to come out? I mean when I was 9 years old my gym teacher looked like her and even I caught on.
