Representative Heath Shuler of North Carolina counts as one of the fourteen Democrats who voted against H.R. 1592- more casually known Hate Crime Bill. So why did Shuler (pictured, looking a bit goofy) vote against a law to help protect homos from violent crimes? Shuler’s words:
We shouldn’t be classifying people. We should treat everyone equally. The thing we should be working on is training and educating people to prevent (hate crimes).
It’s not like you can force teachers the country over to teach their kids it ain’t fresh to pick on the fag. Our lawmakers’ decision to pass the bill last week will teach far more lessons – both judicial and symbolic.
Shuler bucks party, votes against hate crimes bill [Citizen-Times]
petulant
There is also this little nugget in the Citizen-Times article- “Shuler said he was guided equally by political philosophy and by his Baptist religion, which teaches that homosexuality is wrong.”
I am sure all of the GLTB folks in his district (Asheville, NC area) like that little comment.
john
Well, they probably had to vote for the lesser of two evils. Too bad they had to vote for a hillbilly goober! He also looks like a closet fag.
petulant
I live in his district and yes it was a choice between two evils- him or Charles Taylor who spent 12 years being as corrupt as a politician can. So it was either the conservative Democrat or status quo with Taylor. Now Shuler’s conservatism is emerging to a point he might as well switch parties.
We should have known better because he named his kids Navy and Island. What kind of person names their kids that?!!
Bill
I’m with John – the guy has gayface.
el polacko
so.. are any of these fuckwad politicians calling for the repeal of EXISTING ‘hate crime’ laws that protect their race or RELIGION ?? hell no … they are all just in a tizzy about adding homos to the list and we should be steaming mad about it ! we’re one of the smallest minorities but have the highest incidences of hate-motivated crimes committed against us. if we don’t deserve to be included, who DOES ?! baptists ? oh right.. they’re already covered.
