Designer Looks Back For New Collection

If Philip Sparks' fall designs look familiar, that's because they are. The 25-year old Canadian courtier started stitching to quench his thirst for a slim, vintage cut. Though inspired by the past, Sparks stays true to today's trend.

He tells Refinery29's Christina Gregory,

The pieces become modern because of the silhouette. I've always had a love for old things. and my collection is a way of bringing the old traditions forward. My tail coats aren't stiff, they're comfortable and wearable.

I'd buy that short jacket on the right, but I quit my job tearing tickets at the cineplex last week. Bad timing.

A courtier is "an attendant at the court of a sovereign". Phillip Spartks is a fashion designer, not a courtier.
