Desiree Shelton and Sarah Lindstrom Take Their Snow Days Walk, Hand-In-Hand

THE SHOT — Desiree Shelton and Sarah Lindstrom, the lesbian Champlin Park High School couple initially barred from walking together at the school’s Snow Days pep rally, even though students had voted them into the event’s “royal court,” triumphantly showed the Anoka-Hennepin School District that yes, LGBT students go there too. Their fight to walk together ended on Saturday when the school district folded after being sued the day before on discrimination claims. As they walked through the field house yesterday, wearing matching black suits and pink ties and holding hands, their classmates cheered. “This was about more than just me and my school,” says Sarah. “I didn’t care about winning; I just wanted to walk.” How plainly remarkable.
