Discovery?

Trans man "mama" Thomas Beatie's memoir may have been shelved, but that doesn't mean the pot's dry: "Discovery Communications is in negotiations for the exclusive U.S. rights to a documentary about Thomas Beattie[sic], the first man to give birth… September Films owns the global rights to the one-hour documentary, which will follow Beattie [sic] from childhood to the date of the birth, the newspaper says." Of course, the "first man" bit remains essential to Beatie's story, although he's not. [TV Week]

Beatie is not the first "man" to give birth, nor was he "a pregnant man". Thomas Beatie is a female, and that's why Thomas Beatie was able to give birth. That's just biological fact.

Although I wish both him, his wife and their new born the best and I'm happy that his story perhaps could be viewed as something positive and to be celebrated in this country. I have to agree with GEEK here, Beatie was born with female genitalia so there is nothing new or miraculous about him giving birth.

why is it so important to you people to disrespect dude's manhood? worry about your own genitals, and get a life.

Fri, we care because they are making a huge deal about how a biological woman who has been sliced and diced to have a penis became pregnant. people with ovaries get pregnant, more news at 11!

Yes, i would like to comment…
I agree with FRI. Why should we care how Thomas Beatie got his baby? One thing that we should understand about transgender people is there are different ways in which one can transform that is upper transition which does not include sex change like Brandon said "who has been sliced and diced to have penis" and then there is full transition that one include sex change and everything.
One other thing is transpeople also have the right to found family, right to bear children how, when and with whom is them to decide.
Thanks
Skipper -trans

Where in my post did i say he shouldnt have a child or the right to start a family? ok so theres different ways to become a man, but thomas obviously kept enough female anatomy to have babies, so he shouldnt parade in front of the press acting like the impossible has just happened.

I dnt want this to be a dialogue but i language we use can be intimidating. How on earth can you say someone parade to press of the impossible?
Thomas Beatie has a baby and is a transman that is possible believe it or not.
Sure

This again? Still not a MAN, albeit a socially acceptable passing of a man. Twist this one around: When does a trans woman get to join in the biological pleasures of motherhood? Um, never. Superficial surgery to alter your outward appearance makes you no more of a man/woman then a rolex makes you rich. It's all just drag. I'll call Mr. Beattie a man, why not? He paid for the right. But to then try the switch up and play, Man with baby? Sorry, nope. Woman with baby who chooses to pass as a man.
No wonder Trans folks face such ridicule and disbelief as to the sincerity of their struggle. Book deals, tv shows, movie rights. Is anyone suprised? Did anyone think he was going to quietly get a job in a factory and raise his child WITHOUT further publicity? Heck no. No matter which sex you choose to assign him, the end result is ATTENTION WHORE.

skipper if you still cant tell what im trying to say then you must be one "special" person.

i agree that thomas can have babies and be a transman, good for him, ive said this can happen b4. what i meant by parading in front of the press acting like the impossible is possible is that he is acting as if he is an actual born biological male having a baby. which he certainly is not. he is a woman, with full reproductive capability, that had surgery to "be a man", obviously keeping enough of his female junk to have babies. a woman, even one that says she is a man, can have babies. NOTHING SPECIAL!!!!! Scooter Bangs says it best: attention whore

I wish shim all the luck with the baby, but it's time for them to go away and raise their baby quietly, privatley and safely.

I wish them good fortune but this story really needs to go away. Now if it had been a male to female person who'd given birth, well now *that* would have been a medical marvel…
