Disgusting Violence Against Senegal’s Gays Continues Even After They’re Dead

Add Senegal to the list of places it sucks to be gay. “Even death cannot stop the violence against gays in this corner of the world any more. Madieye Diallo’s body had only been in the ground for a few hours when the mob descended on the weedy cemetery with shovels. They yanked out the corpse, spit on its torso, dragged it away and dumped it in front of the home of his elderly parents. The scene of May 2, 2009 was filmed on a cell phone and the video sold at the market. It passed from phone to phone, sowing panic among gay men who say they now feel like hunted animals. … In the past two years, at least four men suspected of being gay have been exhumed by angry mobs in cemeteries in Senegal. The violence is especially shocking because Senegal, unlike other countries in the region, is considered a model of tolerance.” [AP]

Overreaction or not, I don’t care but we need these people to be dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. I’m a typical Massachusetts hardcore leftie/commie but every time I read stories like these and about attacks in our own country as well, I become a little bit more of a Gun Nut. I’ve certainly become a big believer in an eye for an eye.

Aid principle: don’t fund food unless you fund education. I still recoil in horror when asked to feed someone whose values will inevitably rape my own. Culture change, tisk tisk.

He’s not the only gay person who has had this happen to him in Senegal. It’s the rightwing religious leaders in Senegal that are the source of the problem and who should be held accountable. There are some good religious leaders but sadly they are vastly outnumbered by the greedy, self-serving ones who scapegoat any group they think won’t execute them in retribution. Unfortunately this holds true for much of the world.
