Do The Police Have Kevin Mark Powell + Steve Adams’ Killer In Their Sights? (Update: Arrest Made)

A “person of interest” has been identified by police in the slaying of Kevin Mark Powell, 47, and Steve Adams, 52, the domestic partners whose bodies were found over the weekend at their home in Wilton Manors, Florida. Adams, a registered nurse, and Powell, an interior decorator who had to stop working because of diabetes complications, had been together for 29 years after meeting during Cleveland Gay Pride when the latter was 18. Police are not releasing the identity of the person they’re looking into. And as if this story, still in its infancy, couldn’t get more gut-wrenching, we learn that just months ago Powell underwent a double organ transplant — kidney and pancreas — to treat his diabetes, and doctors were impressed with the progress of his recovery. Anyone with information about the murder, or the whereabouts of their missing 2003 Saturn Vue (Florida license plate 989VRL) should call Detective Biagio Balistreri at 954-390-2150 or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477. “It’s torture not knowing what happened in detail,” says Powell’s brother Shannon Kicklighter. I can’t even imagine.

UPDATE: Police have named Peter Serge Avsenew, 26, as their suspect in the case and arrested him at a home in Dundee, Florida. His connection to the couple remains unclear. Their car was also located.
