Oh Rachel, we were just waiting for you (and your sound engineers) to go after President Obama for his Justice Department DOMA filing. Guest Howard Dean jumps in on the criticism, who calls the brief “offensive” and “terrible mistake” and says Obama “didn’t [know] this was coming.” Meaning, DOJ chief Eric Holder and his minions did this all on his own — not that Obama’s off the hook if that’s the case.
But for all his railing against the DOJ’s brief, Dean is just fine letting the White House hold off on repealing Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. Step forward, step back.
Lulz
Simploy. Spell check ftl.
Dave
Not only did he know, but he’s repeatedly defended it. First this was done with the press release and then with the OPM guy who said everything he was saying he was doing on Obama’s approval.
Addyboo
If you’re looking for any kind of criticism of President Obama, you won’t find it on MSNBC. Even on gay issues from the only openly-gay cable pundit. Ideology is a bitch!
Sick of Whining Bitches
@Addyboo:
MSNBC, and specifically Rachel Maddow HAVE, in fact, criticized Obama on several well-deserved occasions when he has made a mistake…Maddow, in particular, has repeatedly brought up the “fierce advocate” claim in a negative comparison to Obama’s slow action on GLBT issues.
If you’re looking for ‘bitches’ spewing horseshit ideology, try the peroxide blonde ‘fem-bots’ over at Fox News…those c-words will repeat ANY lying republican talking point without a second thought…all with a “Stepford Wife” robot gleam in the eye, talk about scary!
depfox
I am loosing all respect for the man I fought to get elected. Obama is not a stupid man.
Pickles
GIRL! Spell check, ok? Or just proofread. We’re here to help you.

Wait a second. Howard Dean just tried to blame DOMA on Karl Rove. (at the 2:30 mark)
DOMA isn’t a Dubya/Cheney/Rove conspiracy. IT’S BILL-FUCKING-CLINTON’S FAULT!!!
We need to be absolutely clear on this point: We are treated like second class, sub-humans who do not deserve any rights at all because anti-gay bigotry is one of the few causes that has bi-partisan support.
Democrats, by and large, are just as bad as Republican’s when it comes to gay rights. And we need to start holding “liberal” Dems accountable.
BOQ
I don’t understand why rachel is always whining about Barack feigning shock and dismay at his flamboyant bigotry. this is the change she bought and sold. you might have been waiting and so were we on friday when she spoke with a ‘cloud expert’ for almost 20 minutes and put on paper hat and sang happy birthday to her Howdy Doody friend instead of covering it and now that she finally did she gives this pig Dean a platform to preach his bigotry and defend Barack. Thanks Rach … you’re always on the job!
fifi
the funny thing is that rachel, within the one hour of her shou will blast obama for gay related issues and totally praise obama on other issues and fiercelly defend obama from the republican mob. I’m like are these words coming from the same person/mouth /brain? but i love her.
ChristopherM
@fifi:
That’s because he deserves to be blasted on gay issues, sometimes deserves to be praised on other issues, and ad hominem attacks deserve to be called out. I don’t see what is inconsistent…she’s simply more honest than other broadcasters.
mikefromSF
@fifi: It’s called balanced reporting baby. none of us hate Obama. we just want him not to ignore us anymore. Obama worships other minorities like AA, and latinos, women(if women are considered a minority group?. Why is he not gay friendly?
glennmcgahee
Rich, how old are you? Were you 10 or 12 when Clinton was in office? This country has come a long way since the 90’s when there was a huge Republican majority in Congress. You bought their talking points which were repeated adnauseum by so-called Progressive sites trying to defeat Hillary Clinton. Thats exactly why you ended up with a homophobe as President. Bil Clinton’s very 1st act as President was to grant gay and lesbians thr right to serve openly in the military. He was pushed back and paid for it dearly. Who did the pushing? None other than a powerful Democrat, Sam Nunn from Georgia, a supporter of Barack Obama. Stop reading just blogs and read a little history. I was there. The Clintons were the best friends we’ve ever had in the White House.
InExile
@glennmcgahee: Very, very true. Those of us that were around then remember Bill Clinton taking a stand and risking everything to do the right thing for our community. The Repugs backed him into a corner, he could sign DADT or keep the total ban of gays in place and with DOMA the choice was sign DOMA or they were going to push a Constitutional Amendment permanently banning all gay marriages. Bill did the best he could do at that time.
galefan2004
If, and its a big fucking IF, Obama didn’t know about this and the DOJ acted on its own when it wrote the brief, then Obama better do some house cleaning and some heads had better roll at the DOJ. If that doesn’t happen then even IF Obama didn’t know about it, he implies consent.
galefan2004
@mikefromSF: We are gay men, we love being ignored by the men we are in love with. We hate the men that actually pay attention to us. That is just the way it works. *SARCASM*
Alex
@Sick of Whining Bitches: And she’s been even harder on him over torture prosecutions.
@glennmcgahee: I was only 10 in 1995, so I don’t quite remember it that well. How did Karl Rove pass DOMA?
rich
@glennmcgahee: “He was pushed back and paid for it dearly. Who did the pushing? None other than a powerful Democrat, Sam Nunn from Georgia, a supporter of Barack Obama.”
You just made my point. Homophobic Democrats are fighting us on equality. This isn’t strictly the Republican’s fault as Howard Dean implied.
Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama hold the exact same position on same-sex marriage. They’re both against it.
Pete
Does Obama think we’re dumber than a box of hair? What the hell is he thinking?
@Sick of Whining Bitches: Enough with the misogynistic slurs. Stick to combating the homophobia.
rick
how much do you want to bet the brief was written by a graduate of the either pat robertsons or jerry falwells law school?
a lot of their briefs are hitting the courts and people are being fired for them.
rick
howard dean is ryan reynolds in 20 years. handsome man.
youcanthandlethetruth
Maddow is neither a good journalist nor a good comedienne.
She’s just a token lesbo on TV.
DOMA is not anti-gay, it’s pro-marriage.
When will you homosexuals stop playing the victim card and wallowing in your own self-imposed exile??
