Does Highlighting a Newspaper Reader’s Homophobia Count As Endorsing It?

Readers of the News Shopper in London were greeted with this “starred letter” from a reader who was horrified to learn about cruising grounds for gay men. “God gave homosexuals up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity,” writes Mrs. S. Fitzsimons. “If we promote anything other than marriage then we shall answer on Judgement Day for it… Just before you mention equality there is no equality today due to everything being biased towards homosexuality.”

And when other readers wrote in to the newspaper complain? The News Shopper took to its Twitter account to insist that by awarding a letter a “star” didn’t mean it endorsed the letter, just that they like to regularly bring the homophobic opinions of its audience to your attention.
