We love Dolly Parton. She may not have won the Oscar for her song Travelin’ Through from TransAmerica, but she’ll always be a winner to us. Recording a country song for a movie about a transsexual is the kind of thing that makes us feel like she’s wrapping her arms around us, and smushing us into those jugs of hers, in a great big community-wide hug.
She certainly draws the ire of the country industry, and is now virtually ignored by radio, who all but refuse to play her songs. But she couldn’t care less if folks don’t like her fraternizing with trannies and queers:
“I’m old enough and cranky enough now that if someone tried to tell me what to do, I’d tell them where to put it.”
Long live Dolly Parton.
