Donnie McClurkin may claim he's straight and not a homophobe, but journo Clay Cane found an anonymous man who allegedly carried on a three-year affair with the gospel-singing reverend. Check out this exchange:
CC: During this time to 2001 to 2004 is really the height of his anti-gay rants. The book came out, he made comments, he told the New York Times in 2002 he’s counseling adolescent boys to convert them from homosexuality. Would you hear about these rants?Rob: Every time I’d read an article in Ebony or Jet, or whatever, I’d just hear it—I’d get upset and we’d always have an argument about it. He said, “I told you.” I said, “It’s crazy. What you’re doing is crazy. You’re writing this stuff, but yet you’re still doing it.” I said, “I have a problem with that. What’s wrong with you?” He said, “I have a problem.”
CC: What do you think he meant by “I have a problem”?
Rob: It’s something he just can’t control. He feels that he has to say that to please people. He said, “I don’t want people to believe that I’m still doing it.”
And there's much, much more…
If you were ordained or studying for ministry before the changes by the psychiatric associations, and when there were few liberal theologians whose contextualism extended to us, it was easy to go on the "down low" or to keep your private life very closeted and private.
At that time, you realised that you had few friends and many opponents who could ruin your career. That was then, and this is now.
I am not African-descended and have no idea whatsoever what it is to be profiled due to race.
I also know that men were emasculated by racist bigots. I also know through black clergy friends and colleagues that a black gay man is subject to total derision by his race. The "down low" was the hypocritical alternative to open assumption. Then, it was important to be the top of the duo.
Again, I will pray for both of these clergy. They are both in a minefield and both will have to live with their theological views and their own demons. Senator Obama has probably unleashed more of a firestorm with unintended consequences for all three of them.
My dear friends:
I have enjoyed sharing with you on this medium. Nigel and I and our son are leaving on a short holiday to the UK this weekend. I may or may not have time to comment upon some new topics as we prepare to leave and get our toddler ready to go.
I interact mostly on Canadian blogs and some international Christian blogs. I have however thoroughly enjoyed my time here this past week.
I want to thank David Hauslaib and Andrew Belonsky for expanding my musical knowledge as well as getting my heart beats going with handsome eye candy.
God bless, Bishop RES
It's been fun reading your posts here, RES. Have a fun and safe trip 8^)
Pastor Donnie preached at my church this evening in Nashville, TN and he was AWESOME and highly used of God. I believe that he has been delivered and the devil is mad because he can't get Donnie back.
So, the Bible says that you will know a tree by the fruit it produces…baby, this is a prosperous tree and I see the hand of God on him and you can't do anything about it.
Sounds like he's addicted to gay sex like most homosexuals.
Who here will argue that the gay lifestyle is healthy?
Death Style says: Who here will argue that the gay lifestyle is healthy?
What? What do you mean by gay lifestyle? Do you mean two men in a committed relationship, monogamous, both working and paying taxes, both praying to God for guidance in their lives, both loving their neighbors as themselves, both giving to the poor, helping feed the hungry? Or do you mean a homosexual man, who like MANY hetersexual men, has a sex addiction? Death Style, when you lump EVERYONE together in one category you deny the FACTS. Get your own heterosexual community in order before you start throwing stones. Divorce rates are over 50%, sexual compulsions are at an all time high (among STRAIGHT) people, STD's are at an all time high among STRAIGHT people, so according to your "educated" philosophy, who here would describe THAT as a healthy lifestyle? You are ignorant. Judgmental. And not a representation of the love of Jesus.
When we catch this HYPOCRITE trickin' with a guy, after he F*CKS UP Obama's campaign…hell hath no FURY
got that Donnie, ya big GURL?
DeathStyle,
go f*ck your BREEDER self
Good idea!
P.S. A U realy girl?
