The incredibly colorful life of late fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent is chronicled in a new film bio Saint Laurent. The biographical drama from acclaimed French director Bertrand Bonello stars handsome model-actor Gaspard Ulliel (Hannibal Rising) as the designer and focuses on the years 1967 to 1976, when Saint Laurent was at his peak and became synonymous world-wide with high fashion, while simultaneously spiraling into drug use and depression. Louis Garrel, known and loved by a lot of gay fans for his unclothed work in 2003’s The Dreamers, costars.
The film, described by Variety as “spellbinding” and showered with 10 César Awards (the French equivalent of the Oscars) nominations earlier this year, will open in select U.S. cities May 18. Watch the trailer below.

that looks really good, the actor playing Yves looks like Dan Renzi from “The Real World”

apparently there are two biopics on Saint Laurent. While I’m a fan of Gaspard Ulliel, his performance from this trailer (and others) looks like Mommie Dearest was his inspiration. Also, apparently Saint Laurent was the victim of some rather extreme attempts to “cure” his homosexuality when he was in the military.

Gaspard Ulliel also played a gay character in Gus Van Sant’s sweet contribution to ‘Paris, Je T’aime’.

It looks interesting. Makes me wonder if there was a difference between him and Halston. Now there was a sleaze bucket (Halston) if ever one existed.

Bob LaBlah, you don’t think it was just the time period, the 70’s were so hedonistic especially for gay men. It was a revolt against the oppression of the 50’s and 60’s and the freedom that Stonewall gave us.

BuyK that looks nice, always wanted to go to Paris.

@Bob LaBlah:
Dolce and Gabbana are most likely your kind of homosexual men. Deeply idiotic Catholics. Believers of “traditional marriage” only, and against the “chemical” creation of children for gays (artificial insemination).
Black Pegasus
The character doesn’t seem to be someone audiences would root for in the second or third act of the film. Rampant narcissism and delusions of grandeur coupled with seeing him holding a cigarette in his hand for 70 percent of the movie means I’ll pass.

@BuyK: I loved that scene in that movie

@Bauhaus: I broke my glasses earlier today but I will tell you this: were I you I would not bother with Dulcolax suppositories because they are useless. Stick with what works (especially with your salary). That being Ex-Lax. Ex-Lax is cheaper and I can tell from your writing you are in bad need of it.
As to the other one you mentioned need I remind you that this is not the place to discuss gonorrhea either. I don’t know HOW you can relate those two to this article. It has nothing to do with constipation. Why must you go there telling me about those two? I will have to refrain from responding further due to the situation with my glasses but I am sure that won’t stop you. Take care, sugar. And follow my advice please.
Elsa Klinch you are not, are you?

This is not a new bio film.Saint Laurent was released in 2014 around the same time as the official film, Yves Saint Laurent, which was approved by his business partner and lover Pierre Berge and got full cooperation from the YSL Foundation.The official bio took the high road and chose to focus on the creative genuis and troubled life they led while the un-official bio chose to take the low road and focus on the trashy side of their life.

There is an error here I followed the cesar in Paris and this YSL received just one Cesar, just like the other YSL in competition for the Cesars. That’s a fact
bobk49
so what is your point?
Bauhaus
@Bob LaBlah:
All joking aside, it would behoove you to stop wearing that fake D&G wear. Just throw it all away. Cologne, too. You wouldn’t want to give the impression you support only the traditional family, like homosexuals Dolce and Gabbana, eh?

Yves St Laurent was not a handsome man by any stretch. However, he knew how to flatter women and promote himself. I get the sense that might have been a gynephilic (woman-loving) homosexual, a type of male whose admiration for the female form borders on fetish but whose sexual inclinations are towards men.
You’ve got to remember that women love being flattered for their physical appearance. Gay men often serve as crutches for these women, and vice-versa.

@Bob LaBlah: I like your response its fucked up and funny.
Bob LaBlah
@jason smeds: Liberace sure as hell did too. The critics mostly panned his playing but the show he gave really wooed older women. He didn’t give one damn what people thought (and he sure as hell knew they were “whispering”). And he “cried about it all the way to the bank.” The last I heard the ol’ queen (Liberace) BOUGHT the damn bank.
Its really funny how a lot of those fashion designers waited till right before they fell into the casket to come out as gay.
Bauhaus
@Bob LaBlah:
Now you’re dragging Liberace into this mess? If anyone could have used a laxative, it was Lee. Although, nothing short of an enema would have done the trick for a homosexual of his stature. Calling nurse Ratched!

@Bob LaBlah: How was Halston sleazy? I don’t really pay attention to the personal lives of fashion designers. Was he as sleazy or hedonistic as Calvin Klein was during the time in the 60s and 70s before people knew about HIV/AIDS?
The fact that these guys were into coke is not surprising since this was the 70s.

A few years after Halston died Ron Perlman publicly said had he known Halston “was the sleaze bucket that he was” he would have never bought his company.” For some reason or other that quote nor interview can be found but mind you Halston died before the internet explosion as was the time of that interview. I remember it quite well because that was also during the times when my friends were dropping like flies. Try dealing with three funerals within two weeks and you might understand the feeling a lot of us had back then about what we would be doing in the future once we retired as to planning Thanksgiving dinners with friends. It got pretty gloomy, trust me. I would have never figured this, the internet, would more or less become to me what it has……………..anyway.
The archive below is about the best I can dig up that can give you an idea as to why this guy, Halston, was on
the same level as Calvin Klein. Based on how Halston started acting after selling his company and grandeur he sounds more or less like an out of the closet Liberace. Only worse.
As for Klein he was lucky because even though David Geffen called a press conference more or less to announce he was writing Calvin a sixty-million dollar check to save his company Klein hasn’t fucked up since either. And yes, drugs played a large part in Klein’s fall from grace back then. Nowadays young boys are more or less the reason.
