Anti-gay activist Elaine Donnelly has made it her life mission to maintain Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. The issue is so serious, she says, that conservatives must oppose it in the same vein as they oppose stem-cell research, because “it’s that serious.” Basically, in her closed mind, if we gays can serve openly in the military, then the entire world will crumble into hell and we’ll all be raped by Satan. She has that severe look about her. Maybe she was circumcised as a little girl and thinks sex should be awful for everyone.
Instead of just making fun of her, why not send some money to SLDN.org which counsels gay and lesbian soldiers caught in the military’s 60+ year-old antigay Web and works to overturn the policy?
Her interview was done by Focus on the Family who has a gazillion dollar budget and our single greatest enemy as an organization. Merely throwing shade at her and them accomplishes nothing.
The Dutch army (for one) allows openly gay people to join. Why isn’t that an issue for the Dutch?
I have been a regular contributor to SLDN for a number of years. For two years, I also volunteered to man a booth for SLDN at Atlanta’s Pride Festival (I even have the t-shirt). I think I will continue to laugh at someone like this.
