Dutch Folk Prefer Gays To Muslims
A new survey out of The Netherlands shows that Dutch folk have no problems with a gay, woman or atheist president. They seem to draw the line at Muslims, however. “Three in four find a prime minister with a black skin acceptable. The score was also high for an atheist (87 percent) or a homosexual (78 percent). There appeared to be less tolerance for people of other religions, the survey showed. Only half of respondents would accept a Jewish prime minister, and only 27 percent would be happy with a Muslim one.” [Xinhua]
when i was visiting the Netherlands (i won’t go into details), there was a DEFINITE line drawn in the sand when it comes to Muslims. They (the Muslims) have been a constant “thorn” of sorts, and certain laws that are passed seem to stroke the flames even more (i.e. allowing civil marriages, a woman must show her entire face for a driver’s license/ID, etc.).
i was really quite amazed how irate people got in pubs and such when talking about the “Muslim area of town”. they got so irate, they would even stick up for Americans!
Europeans finally coming to their senses. YEAH!!!
what do you mean, “other” religions? you think everyone in the netherlands is a christian? it’s not america, people — the number of believers is LOW. so i think you’ve misinterpreted the survey. many of them probably wouldn’t like a christian prime minister either.
The Dutch are always ahead of the curve on any issue. If the Dutch have a real problem with Muslims then we all need to take note.
Some of my friends in Europe have similar attitudes toward their growing “fundamentalist” Islamic populations — particularly my friends in England and to a lesser extent, Sweden. That’s one reason why I like the borg!
