Dutch politico Bert Koenders launched a homophobic smoke-out. The Development Minister has challenged his nation’s anti-gay aid recipients to change their ways.
A government survey showed homosexuality is illegal in 18 out of the 36 countries the Netherlands gives regular aid to, Development Minister Bert Koenders said in a statement, with punishment ranging from prison sentences to the death penalty.
“The Netherlands will promote as much equal treatment of homosexuals as possible. We will not avoid awkward discussions about this,” he said in a letter to parliament.
Koenders has asked Dutch ambassadors in developing countries to push for gay rights unless local human rights organizations object on grounds it would be counter-productive.
You know what would be even better? Sanctions. Take away people’s money and they really start to listen. Okay, not always, but we’re not sure “awkward discussions” will scare people straight.

Nigel, Norbert and I have many good friends in the Nederland. It is such a progressive nation, and a beacon for human freedom since the time it gave refuge to American Pilgrims on their way to create a theocracy in MA…..(yes, Nigel’s ancestors LOL).
We have close friends that we met years ago who are lesbians with two children who are near Norbert’s age. They are professionals and also Dutch activists. We have met BKoenders and we know that this is but a first step toward an end to supporting nations who are persecuting our families from legalised murder to legalised imprisonment.
