Something smells a bit fishy – and queer – in this week’s home entertainment highlights.
In Identity Thief, Melissa McCarthy abuses the identity and credit line of a very unhappy Jason Bateman, while a super cute zombie develops a room-temperature-blooded crush on a living girl in zom-com Warm Bodies.
Meanwhile a teen with Aspberger Syndrome discovers secrets about his recently killed brother in White Frog, and two Los Angeles Chicanas catch a whiff of something more than platonic in Mosquito Y Mari.

Melissa McCarthy stars as a sociopath who steals the identity of Sandy Patterson, a white collar stranger (Jason Bateman) and racks up a whole lot of credit debt and an arrest or two under his name. Patterson takes things into his own hands in a slapstick-y attempt to track down and bring this lunatic to justice. Logic and reality is mostly tossed aside here, but how can you go wrong with McCarthy and Bateman? The unrated, extended Blu-ray edition includes a gag reel, featurettes, alternate takes, and an insider tour.

When the older brother he loved and idolized is killed, a teenage boy with Aspberger syndrome gets a look inside his sibling’s circle of friends… and secrets. This VOD engagement of director Quentin Lee’s latest precedes its July 16 DVD release.
($39.99 Blu-ray, $29.95 DVD; Summit Entertainment)
A cute young zombie falls for a living girl. Of course, there are a few complications to this romance – like hordes of other zombies, her zombie-hunting father, his lack of conversational skills, the fact he ate her ex-boyfriend’s brains, etc. Cute stuff! Extras include a commentary, collection of behind the scenes featurettes, deleted scenes, outtakes, and more.
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
($24.95 DVD; Wolfe)
A pair of 15-year-old Los Angeles Chicanas, Yolanda and Mari, struggle to help their immigrant families rise above adversity. When their friendship proves deeper than platonic in nature, however, loyalties to family are challenged. Ah, adolescence! Includes behind the scenes featurette.
