The rumors were true: former candidate John Edwards endorsed Barack Obama this evening, speaking of the Senator’s “bold leadership.” The speech, staged in Michigan, effectively rained on Hillary Clinton‘s West Virginia parade.
Speaking of raining, the Clinton campaign had to apologize to a West Virginia voter today after a campaign caller, who had thought the person picked up, inadvertently left a fairly offensive message.
Hi. Hello? This is crazy. This person hung up. Maybe they think it’s a bill collector. I bet it is. West Virginians are poor.
Ouch.

That’s it. I’m done. This is one fag that’s voting for McCain. Obama and Edwards can take their elitist views and $400 haircuts and shove it.
Kid A
Fantastic, AOPHNVFMcC! Great idea! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who believes that if Hillary doesn’t win her supporters can be sore losers and defect completely. Why can’t Obama supporters see that the anti-gay, pro-war, fear-mongering Republican candidate is so much better than the gay-tolerating, anti-war Obama? Obama is causing quite a stir among young Democratic voters, which is very dangerous to status quo, if you ask me, and bad if we want to keep our fantastic system on track for many more years. Yes, AOPHNVFMcM, you and I will take the HIGH ground, knowing that all those silly Obama supporters only care about America, not Hillary’s feelings.
(P.S. I forgot to say “Hussein” and “flag pin”)

I guess since McCain is not an elitist because his mega-millionaire wife got that way through beer… http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/04/03/politics/main3991700.shtml

I never thought it would come to this, but as a long standing democrat I have no choice but to vote for McCain.

Get some principles.

And here I thought the “American dream” was to succeed and, amongst one’s gold and diamond encrusted baubles, get $400 haircuts.
Get over yourself. They’re all “elitist”, and even if they don’t act it, they’re still “elite”.
The ideas may differ, but I see these personalities transcending national boundaries. Their drives and ambitions are such that, for example, if were they (hypothetically) born in modern China, then they would be the types of people seeking power in the “Communist” Party.
That’s the reality of power and the people who seek it. Underneath it all, they each want immortality.
AntiObamaProHillaryNowVotingForMcCain
@8. I didn’t say I was voting for McCain because I didn’t want to be on a losing team. Nonetheless if polls now are any indication Hillary would win in a landslide against McCain and Obama would lose in an electoral landslide against McCain. I will not vote for Obama because he is inexperienced. I’m American first and my duty is to elect the most qualified person President. Barring Hillary’s nomination as the Democratic Candidate for President, that leaves McCain as the most qualified person to run this country.
What has Obama done? Nothing. He has not governed a State, run a successful company, or served any sigifnicant time in federal office.
All Obama can offer America is a good speech and a dream. Hillary and McCain offer experience and a little grounding in reality.
Alec
Or they offer an old, tested, and failed approach to public policy. I am tired of this “experience” argument. He has *more* political experience than both Edwards and Clinton, if what counts is time in elected office. It has started to have a racist air about it…the “boy” should wait his “turn.”
“What has Obama done? Nothing. He has not governed a State, run a successful company, or served any sigifnicant time in federal office.”
So by this standard, only Senator McCain and Senator Clinton are the qualified candidates left standing? What does serving significant time in federal office have to do with whether you are a good candidate or not? Senator Strom Thurmond was in the senate forever (as both a Democrat and a Republican), and he would be the last person I would have wanted to serve as president.
Why is experience in a large state legislature tossed aside so easily? You are not pointing to policy arguments or ability to turnout voters, you’re pointing to fluff. Senator Clinton has not governed a state, she has not run a successful company (let me guess: Romney was your first choice, Clinton second?) and her “significant” service in the senate is…gasp!…less than eight years, which means one full term. He has served in an elected office since 1996.
Governor Bush governed a state…he was obviously not qualified to be president.
Face it: you backed a loser and now you’re pissed. Tough cookies. Get over yourself and support the Democratic Party’s nominee, or leave the Democratic Party and vote for an economic and social conservative.

I’ve noticed that Obama supporters, especially this site, have a very nasty tendency to put Hillary Clinton down wherever possible. If you examined all the articles on this site about Hillary, you’d see they were pretty much universally negatively framed – talking about Hillary in a negative, unflattering, mean light. With Obama, it’s the total opposite. Rose tinted glasses as it were. And that’s what worries me about Obama and his supporters, that his supporters will happily kick Ms. Clinton when she’s down, and hard. Talk of speeches “raining on her parade” and so on is a nasty, unnecessary blow. Were the situation reversed I am quite certain that different, nicer-to-Obama verbage would have been used.
I will be voting for a Green candidate should Obama take the nomination, because I don’t like the tactics employed by his supporters, or the media, and can’t associate myself with them.

Great ticket, President Obama and VP Edwards. Edwards gets the white blue collar hillbilly vote and maybe some of Hillary’s dumb gay vote, and Obama gets the sprout eating, Volvo driving, educated white gay male vote, like me.

This back and forth anger and insult fest is getting old.
I’m voting for Obama, but would vote for Hillary if she won the nomination.
If you are voting for McCain, please first examine his stance on issues and make sure that he really does represent what you want from your president.
I personally feel that voting for McCain is blood on my hands. I would feel responsible for the unnecessary deaths of soldiers in iraq. I would feel responsible for the overturning of Roe Vs. Wade when McCain appoints two conservative anti-choice supreme court justices. I would feel responsible for the continued decay of the economy when a man takes over who says he has no understanding of how it works.
Voting is a privelage. It is a powerful thing. Please for the sake of us all, make sure that you are using it wisely.
Also, remember that the president it only the head of the executive branch. Though George Bush has twisted the office a bit to make it seem like a dictatorship, that is not the real nature of the job. I am more concerned about the house and senate. Also, some of our most effective presidents were inexperienced untested entities. Abraham Lincoln for example.
Some of the least effective have been very “qualified.”
The requirements for the job are spelled out in the constitution and they do not include experience. If experience is your benchmark, then Yes, John McCain is top, Obama is second and Hillary Clinton has the least experience as an elected official in a legislative capacity.
Unless you’re counting her time as first lady heading a botched healthcare fiasco that cost the taxpayers millions.
todd
Obama is not inexperienced you morons! He has the right amount of experience – the longer those douche bags are in D.C. the more favors they owe! The less time there – the more accountable they are to the PEOPLE! Gays, get over your love of the Clintons – that is SO 1993!!

John
John Edwards was the best candidate running for President this election. He’s proof that the best candidate often doesn’t win. I regret that its not Obama endorsing Edwards. Oh well.
I will vote for the Democrat in the Fall. Let’s hope McCain spells potato with an “e” at the end or exhibits some other sign of dementia on videotape between now and then so that the Democractic victory is less tense.
If the Democrats lose this election I am switching to the Lemonade party.
Peace.

So basically if someone doesn’t like Obama it’s because he’s black? I resent that. If you don’t like Hillary, it’s because you’re sexist. If she was a man, you would’ve given her a chance!!
My only problems with Obama are his supporters, the media, the way he has conducted business, and his habit of parroting popular things. And that all of his supporters see something different in him; they can’t all be right. But using a red-herring argument of “anyone who don’t vote for Obama is racist!!!!!!” doesn’t help, isn’t true, and basically says that no-one can have a dissenting opinion against him without being blanketly called racist. It’s stupid, low, and a non sequitur argument; and a series charge.
I agree with John, I preferred Edwards.

Thanks Tom for not making this so personal. You add more evidence that Obama is attracting immature voters who are arrogant and self-righteous.
================
Don’t worry Clinton supporters. You’ll only need to wait four more years before she is President. America is not voting in the inexperienced and scandal tainted Obama. There is a huge trust gap that America has with Obama and the few small states he has won are not representative of America over all. Don’t forget Hillary leads the popular vote too (of course you Obamaniacs never want to count Florida and Michigan…I wonder why? Is it because it proves the point Hillary has been making all along about Obama’s electability).
McCain electoral landslide. You heard it here first.
If gays united behind McCain we’d certainly have more influence when he is certainly elected President. Its called block voting and it helps your community gain influence with politicians and Washington. Yeh, the Republicans aren’t too friendly to gays now, but if we are his margin of victory that can change.

Not there yet, unlike you hypocrites I can see the flaws that Mccain a white man has do to some associations when it comes to GLBT rights.
But weighing between the two I see many more problematic associations in the Obama camp.
What would make me think that he is going to go against the solid homophobic african american voting block that has undeniably gone 100% his way?
As much as some of you foul mouth militants would like to paint everyone whos not with you as illiterate and hicks I can see was coming with Obama. Like I wrote above to all self respecting gay people, you don’t need to take my word nor name calling MR C, Afroguapo and the rest, just do your research.
Ask yourself if Obama is such an ally of us why is ultra homophobe Meek still hanging around his camp and being seated at the convention?
Leah Daughtrey – rabid bigot and obama supporter who’s the chair of the convention, working against us everyway possible. Just to name two.
And seeing the behavior of people like obama supporters have, if I saw some improvement on Mccain’s part yes I would consider him.
Not there yet, I still believe Hillary can close the deal and save us from an Obama disaster.
If loving my counrty, being proud of my sexuality , not wanting to live in the closet or the down-low, not want to be arrested for kissing my boyfriend , and keep moving foward for full equality for GLBT people makes me a bad person in the eyes of the black hypocritical militants then so be it.

He will NOT get my vote. And I will actively work against him for President because of the campaign he ran against Hillary.

Howard Dean and Bill Clinton both revealed it was Dean’s support of vermont’s domestic partners which caused Clinton to kill Dean’s campaign through the DLC’s backrooms.
The most objectionable case to make against the Clintons is they had HUGE queer fundraisers that put them in the White House, and more lesbians in their cabinet than a Dinah Shore golf tournement, and STILL they turned on us.

Okay Churchill, I confess the jig is up…you’ve figured us out and the master plan. We do stick together and once BHO is in office, all of us black militants, even the gay ones, plan to confiscate the property and money of white people based on the premise of unjust enrichment, enslave the white race by making them servants for all people of color in the United States, appoint black militants to the Supreme Court, turn our white boyfriends into sex slaves, ban Christmas and make everyone celebrate Kwanzaa. I am hardly militant nor is Mr. C. If anything, we’re very frustrated that posters like yourself think it’s permissible to say the most outlandish and offensive things and see nothing wrong with double standards which are inherent and rife in our society. I think racist attitudes are so deeply ingrained that people like you are utterly oblivious to it or desensitized to it. There’s no need for the paranoia and race baiting/mongering, as BHO is not your enemy and is not determined to negate the progress that gays have made in society. And black people are largely for BHO because of his positions on various issues, his stellar background, his humble upbringing and his ability to relate to a diverse array of people given the manner in which he was raised and this would send a positive signal to the rest of the world that America is no longer to be reviled as the obnoxious ignorant imperialist that Bush cemented in his administration. My partner and I were in Paris for Halloween and all the French people we met were like, “Le president! quelle horreur! sacrebleu!” and we’re like “yeah, sorry, we know, we didn’t vote for him” Put the Tina pipe down Churchill (and stop the paranoia) and go make some black friends. We’re really nice people.

#15 Obama will never get my meat eating, BMW driving, educated white gay male vote from me. It is a shame that black voter’s and ‘educated’ young white voters have decided to nominate someone who will never win the general election. Such a shame. My vote for McCain will be a victorious vote, filled with enthusiasm and sadness. I will be sad for the country that could have benefitted from Hillary Clinton, instead we’re left with Obama and McCain. Between the two, McCain is the stronger choice. No. 52, I know Underbear. Thought that might elicit some titters/smiles. Shout out to the power bottoms. Have much love for you and for providing much needed physical sustenance. Need some levity when some of us are going off on here crazy about McCain being the viable option like a wrathful woman scorned when we know he’s the least apt to support LGBT rights. McCain is Bush III plain and simple. I like that BHO does not have this overly aggressive persona which engenders ire abroad, that he’s an intellectual in contrast to Bush/McCain, that he believes in the process of engagement and that he was NEVER for this war. For more edification check out, Gore Vidal’s The United States of Amnesia http://www.democracynow.org/2003/5/13/gore_vidal_on_the_united_states and Tony Kushner’s Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy. I also like that BHO wants to focus on domestic issues like Edwards’ tackling poverty campaign rather than being rapacious in building empire under the guise of “iraqi freedom” or manufacturing threats in the American psyche. Underbear, I just noticed the Q in your sign-off and drew the inference of what it meant. Cute! LMQBAO
Reversion, I concur in that the Democrats are not as progressive as they should be (e.g., supporting civil unions as a concession/appeasement) and have become somewhat Republican Light in order to galvanize support among the masses and independents. This is a lament often expressed by Bill Perdue so all the massive change I personally would like to see in this country and this world will not come to fruition but at this point, I am resigning myself to just staving off further disaster (McCain).
CHURCHILL-Y
Afroguapo, of all the pro-Obamist here you seem from some of your writing the most affable, even though I completely disagree with you. So yes much to the amazement of some of the militants I would have no problem with making “some black friends.” Having said that and putting aside your caricature of what I have written the fact remains that your beloved Barack Hussein Obama refuses to distance himself from his homophobic supporters as he has done, though after much spectacle from Rev. Wright which although late I still applaud.
My problem is not with your melanin or lack of it
Afroguapo and I know you will never understand that, my problem lies in your hypocrisy.
I acknowledge the hateful homophobic association Mccain has with Hagge and I have no problem when you and the other militants point it out. But you Obama backers don’t acknowledge the many that he has and then you want to cry foul when someone hints on that.
What would be the conclusion anyone who’s not on your bank is gonna have Afroguapo?
Obama may talk a good game from time to time but he does nothing about it in his campaign.
Why would I or any other trust him to do anything different in the White House Afroguapo? I know you’ll come up with a lame excuse, spin it, deny it or cry racism. And here is where I come full circle, Obama supporters only see bigotry if it’s racism or if the homophobia comes from a white person but if it comes from Obamas solid voting block then they’ll look the other way. What do you call that Afroguapo? I know what your answer if any is going to be.
Good to see that you agree with underbear1.
Perhaps you’ll join him in rioting the democratic convention like he said black and some young people(not me) would if they don’t get their way.
No, even though you might ideologically agree with him, based on some things written by you I won’t caricature you as you have me. I don’t think you would join him. If I’m wrong about the rioting you can correct me though.

Church:
I am far from being a hypocrite. I was merely making jokes with Underbear about my fictional story of the “scary black sinister plot” to show how preposterous it is to suggest something grave will happen towards whites or gays if he becomes president. You will note that I am a BHO supporter by default which I’ve said previously, because Kucinich was my first choice and unfortunately, his views do not coincide with mainstream America so he’s not electable because he doesn’t tow the same line. I am NOT for HRC because she seems disingenuous and is a shapeshifter to me (crying and finding her voice in New Hampshire but then pretending she’s Rocky and standing on flatbad trucks inviting BHO to a duel), Ms. Walmart professes to be progressive and a champion for hard-working white Americans when she’s not (points made by Bill Perdue from time immemorial), she voted for this war, funding it and aligned herself with Bush & Co. and won’t admit/aplogize for her egregious mistake the way Edwards and others have done, she’s played the race card despite blacks having been long-time staunch supporters of her and her philandering husband because it’s to her advantage sowing seeds of dissension and fomenting white discomfort/mistrust, and the NY Times article which showed all the financial chicanery and dubious pardons she and Bill resorted to when they were departing the White House. Nonetheless, I would vote for either her or the green candidate rather than give my vote to McCain as he’s 100% status quo. BHO is not a saint and I am far from being one of his zealous cheerleaders (in contrast to a contingent of HRC fans on here who are so loyal and blinded that one would think she is their biological sister or mother) but I do find his candidacy and positions more transparent than hers although I question whether it will be politics as usual if he were to get into office (a Bill Perdue prediction). Yes, he’s made gaffes of McClurkin, etc. but he’s also mentioned how gays cannot be scapegoated in numerous speeches and pitted against straight people, and challenged homophobia in black churches stating that God should judge, not mere mortals and that they are alienating parts of their congregation and forcing men to stay in the closet. I neither condone racism nor homophobia and speak out against both. I feel that you and others are only concerned with homophobia and feminism because perhaps you more readily identify with or relate to the plight of [white] women in being the underdog [e.g., as a homosexual] in a straight man’s world than say relating to the plight of blacks, latinos, etc. and being indifferent or dismissive about it. As one poster quipped, “Jeesh, WE’RE giving you a black president already, when is enough, enough, Can I just write my check and get it over with!” TGIG! A la prochaine, Afro

Churchlady did seem to be awfully prying to get Afroguapo to discuss riots, and there are folks who read blogs and forums for any possible connotation of advocating violence, to use against sites and individuals.I’ll attempt to not give these folks sparks to build their bonfires upon.
CHURCHILL-Y
Afroguapo, I knew you were incapable of admitting to the bigots withing the Obama camp and in your community. To you his associations with Meeks his refusal on the Mcclurkin episode and so on are just clumsy errors.
Concerning your hateful writing on senator Clinton, the only valid point in which I could agree with you is in her voting for a Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq . Unlike you I won’t parse words and will describe her vote for what it was a horrible and blatant and costly error which even though it might have been well intention on her part, based on her floor speech;”My vote is not, however, a vote for any new doctrine of pre-emption, or for uni-lateralism, or for the arrogance of American power or purpose — all of which carry grave dangers for our nation, for the rule of international law and for the peace and security of people throughout the world.”
“A vote for it is not a vote to rush to war; it is a vote that puts awesome responsibility in the hands of our President and we say to him – use these powers wisely and as a last resort. And it is a vote that says clearly to Saddam Hussein – this is your last chance – disarm or be disarmed.” had exactly the opposite effects. Based on that and upon learning more about KUCINICH I also was attracted to his campaign which is why I supported him till the end then I went to the EDWARDS camp because I saw some similarities with Kucinich’s ideals but when he dropped out I was left with two choices. So did many other Kucinich and Edwards supporter so I was hardly the Hillary cheerleader you want to paint me as.
I’ve made my decision as many others based on a tangible record. It’s so easy for people like you to criticize without looking first at the faults of your candidate because truth is Obama didn’t vote on the war resolution.
He was in a state senate at the time, not the U.S. Senate and didn’t have a vote. All he could do was talk about it. Everyone knows he was preaching to the quire, literally in his community. No one is ever going to know what he would have done had he been in the U.S. Senate and had to make a real decision instead of giving speeches as he does with everything. All talk and pretty words and no action.
For you and the other militants to talk trash about Hillary when she has if nothing been a civil rights(code-word for your group for only race, because to your group the only non-political rights of a citizen guaranteed by the Constitution are those that concern racial equality) advocate and worked her butt-off for blue collar American workers shows who you really are and your argument flies in the face of reality. Hillary Clinton could have been mother Theresa and she still would have lost the african american vote once Obama announced his candidacy. If any non-militants happen to also be reading this just research her record. I know the militants willnot and keep on going for the jugular. On your comment; “I feel that you and others are only concerned with homophobia and feminism because perhaps you more readily identify with or relate to the plight of [white] women in being the underdog [e.g., as a homosexual] in a straight man’s world than say relating to the plight of blacks, latinos, etc. and being indifferent or dismissive about it.”
I knew you would feel that way Afroguapo, you just can’t help yourself I understand.
Also, unlike you I can see the comment; “Jeesh, WE’RE giving you a black president already, when is enough, enough, Can I just write my check and get it over with!†not written by you as wrong. Because I think that no one alive today owes nothing to african americans. I’ve tried to understand your support for Barack Hussein but you (and I won’t talk about the other militants because they are just plain nuts), have proven me right. First and foremost your black or african american or whatever you identify racially as and secondly or third, American or Gay or whatever. And their lies your simple support for Husseins candidacy instead of Hillarys.
NObama!!!

Church,
“Hillary Clinton could have been mother Theresa and she still would have lost the african american vote once Obama announced his candidacy.”
You are too funny and a bit ahistorical. When Obama announced he was going to run, he did not have the black vote. And for some reason you keep forgetting the big time black pols who support Clinton (Rep. Rangel comes to mind). But why mention this? Much better to describe Obama supporters as “militant” (I’m not by the way).
Afroguapo
Church, I replied to you over the weekend to demonstrate, yet again, the fallacy of some of the statements/misinterpretations you make. Unfortunately, it has yet to post.
