ELCA Leader Mark Hanson: Even The Jesus Folks Believe It Gets Better

Obama. Clinton. Pelosi. All big names to come out telling kids “it gets better.” But I’m most impressed by religious leaders, whose messages reach the hearts and minds of parents, aunts and uncles, and the adorable neighbor lady with the three cats, who might otherwise have a problem with the fey boy down the street, or the young girl who wears her hair in a buzz cut. Here’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in America’s chief Bishop Mark Hanson, reaching out to young people “being the people God created them to be.”

Hanson showing his support for our community isn’t new: Last year he was lobbying Lutherans not to withhold donations from ELCA because of the church group’s decision to let gays join the clergy.

This, THIS, is what Christianity is all about. Not the crazy whackjobs in the MegaChurches, not the Catholic Bishops in their ivory towers, not the Orthodox in their monasteries.

This is a man who represents the true heart of the Christian Faith.

It’s wonderful to see the Lutherans moving forward, finally. And the Bishop does a great job here.
