Stars on Ice is really selective of who they hire and they only hire the best of the best to skate. It would’ve been hard of them to justify hiring him, and I think he was really upset because he wanted the financial benefit of the tour. A lot of us in the skating world were really disappointed in the way he reacted, basically whining that he wasn’t chosen.
—Evan Lysacek, the Olympic gold medalist and Dancing With The Stars competitor, on why arch-nemesissy Johnny Weir didn’t get picked for the Smuckers gig. Lysacek, meanwhile, says he’s “dating in L.A., but I just haven’t found the right girl.” Aww. [Metromix, via]

Johnny Weir is a good showman, but Weir does come off a bit bitter and whiny; if he is the one with the “coming out” tour, it will give an idea of his ego too.
Cam
I see the point…but honestly, I just hate to agree with anything this guy says while he is still so closeted. Hey Evan, you won nationals, you won worlds and you won the Olympics…mission accomplished, time to come out and be honest.
Carlyloo
At least in the comments I have ready Johnny seemed pretty accepting of not being chosen- he said he had never been offered a spot and hadn’t expected it. It seems it was more his fans who were making an issue of it.
AlwaysGay
Evan Lysacek is gay. Every person who pretends to be heterosexual and hides their homosexuality only to water carry for heterosexual prejudices needs to be outed. Evan is out there making sure gay people can’t be openly gay in figure skating AND be successful.
Johnny’s free skate program at the Olympics was the third highest in terms of difficulty. He skated it near perfect yet placed sixth despite three competitors ahead of him falling once or twice. There was massive prejudice to keep Johnny off the podium and out of the exhibition skate.
Republican
Ever since his win at the Olympics, Evan has been extremely kind and polite in interviews. No matter what comment Plushenko or anyone else makes about the results or Evan himself, he responds with nothing but sweetness. Sure, maybe it’s all an act, but the point is that this kind of negative comment is something we haven’t heard from Lysacek’s lips in quite some time. My hunch? Johnny Weir’s wink really got under his skin.
As for the merits of the comment, I suppose it’s possible that his weaker record factored into the decision. However, and I’m saying this as someone who doesn’t really care for Weir’s skating, I’m willing to bet that they would have overlooked that if the skater involved was as much of a showman as Weir is, yet totally closeted.
The “right girl” comment is LOL-worthy. You aren’t fooling people, Evan. OK, maybe you’re fooling some older women who secretly lust after you and have zero gaydar, but you aren’t fooling most of us.
tjr101
Enough with the PC crap. Weir wasn’t selected for the tour because he isn’t the all American, wholesome and “manly” image like Evan Lysacek. And these comments by Lysacek is what you come to expect from the white male heterosexists in America, i.e. “they should stop complaining.”

That was true if he had skated the entire program, however he took out his quad jump which lowerd the overall difficulty of his program.

I just love how you say “Enough with this PC crap” and then go right on to insinuate that Lycesek’s comments are tied to him being “White”. Give it a rest, like the Black, Hispanic, or Asian communities are any more accepting? Sorry but this isn’t freashman sociology, everything happening to Johnny Weir didn’t happen for racial issues.
Mike L.
I don’t think I have seen a straight man stand the way Lysacek is standing in that photo, maybe his legs were spread too wide that day.
Evan come out already, it’s not funny anymore. Yeah haven’t found the right girl, I bet he almost gagged when he said that.
TONYD
@AlwaysGay: The story has nothing to do about being out or not, because neither are if they are truly gay. As for public displays of sportsmanship, Weir whines with Lysacek in 2nd.
scott ny'er
@Mike L.: Oh no you didn’t!!! LOL.
I bet that’s not the only time Evan gagged. ;P
Timothy
Ah, he hasn’t found the right girl. I know one who would be perfect for him. She’s a tall pretty blond with a great rack… and she still has her penis.
ajax
Didn’t Rudy Galindo tour with Stars on Ice for several years AFTER he came out?
tjr101
@Cam: “Give it a rest, like the Black, Hispanic, or Asian communities are any more accepting.”
True, but they are not the ones in power preventing you from getting married (or having it recognized at the federal level). Take a gander at the US senate.
Sean Newham
I bet loads of gay men have tried looking for that girl before coming out – 6ft4, arty stubble, six pack and a penis, Evan?
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
This was started when a schmuck from Smuckers made the comment right after the Olympics about Johnny qWeir not being “family friendley” Johnny said many times he didn’t expect to be asked to join the tour this year, because they never asked him before. The whole drama is a pathetic joke. The US Figure Skating ASSociation disrespected qWeir when he was number one by refusing to post his photo and bio on their website, making only a passing mention of him. The Executive Director stated they wanted male figure skating to have a more masculine appeal.
Johnny qWeir has been civil and taken this whole thing in stride in numerous interviews. Evan Lyingsackofshit is simply pissed that even though he won the gold, qWeir is still garnering more attention………….

“They” are not the ones in power? I’m sure that the Congressional Black and hispanic Caucuses would be a bit irritated to hear you say that. If all races voted as a unified block then we wouldn’t have had so much fighting over the Health Care bill or currently over the Wall Street reform. To put it up there as if each race is a monolith of power is ridiculous. There are congressmen and senators of differing races on both sides of the aisle, some of them support us, some don’t. Your way of thinking isn’t any different then the people that tried to blame the entire Prop 8 vote on the black community.
tjr101
@Cam: You mentioned the congressional black and Hispanic caucuses which are in the house of representatives. I actually believe more pro- lgbt legislation will pass in the house because of it’s diverse make up but they are not the end all of things. It’s the senate and look at it’s composition.
Btw I’m sure the black and Hispanic caucuses would agree that they don’t have much power. The blue dog dems usually get what they want.
We’ve gone really of topic…:D
DR (the real one, not the guy who made post #12)
@ajax: No, he toured with Champions on Ice, a different show which went bankrupt in 2008.

EVAN IS WRONG.
first of all johnny never made any fuss at all over the stars o ice controversy, his fans did after realizing they’d rather hire skaters not even in the olympics this year and have denied johnny a spot even when he was the three time us champion.
also evan might have been forced to say something like this because 1)stars on ice hasn’t made a whole lot of money recently 2)he’s on the tour!
finally stars just chooses whoever they want that fits their middle america family pleasing image. so the whole controversy is very valid.

I do not know if Evan is gay or not but if or when Evan comes out that is his business but to assume so without anything but Johnny’s attempt at ill advised humor does not serve us well. Are we not the same community that gets offended when the media assumes that every effeminate man is gay and every masculine woman is a lesbian? Didn’t most of us come out on our terms when we were ready? But we are so quick to assume others are. Based on what? How are we any different then those we point fingers too?
The issue to me is clear, is Evan a better skater? He just won the Olympic figure skating title and in 2009 won the World title. Johnny last won the American title in 2006 and his only World medal was in 2007 and it was a bronze. The international judges have view Evan the best in the world twice in the last two years. Johnny came in 6th place. A champion wins when it counts and he owns the crown. That, my friend is fact. You can say whatever you want but who wears the crown? Nothing you can say or feel is going to change this. Evan is the Olympic Champion. Game, set, point.
As to ‘Stars on Ice’ taking the best of the best that is not really true based on its history. It does take the champions but lesser talent has been on the tour even 6th place finishers.
The real issue is Johnny not only doesn’t have the current resume but his behavior is not what the USFSA (United Skates Figure Skating Association) or the sponsors find appealing. Johnny’s personality is bigger then the show. It’s all about Johnny. Give him credit he knows how to market Johnny but in a sport all about image and subjective scoring this is a deal breaker.
Johnny came in 6th in the most important event in skating. Not really a star in terms of his skating in 2010 or 2009 or 2008. And with a book coming out that most likely will offend the USFSA his days as a skater are about over. As a judge are you going to give high marks to someone who just offended you or your sport? Hardly. Skating is about politics, image and reputation as well as skating ability. Evans plays the game. Johnny does not.
And image is most important for men skaters. Who has the USFSA or world judges give better marks to? Brian Boitano or Brian Orser. Michael Weiss or Timothy Goebel. Todd Eldredge or Rudy Galindo. Evan or Johnny. Who has had a longer career in skating, not counting coaching? Rudy won in 1996 in his hometown of San Jose and the judges would have been killed if they would have not given him his most desiring title but at the World’s that same year who won the title? Todd Eldredge.
And has anyone forgotten about Surya Bonaly or her mother? Evan normally is a class act. But it is time to move on. It’s baseball season and time to look at boys in speedos. Or at least to imagine what James Franco or Emile Hirsh looks like in a speedo.

evan lysacek should really spend more time washing his face, and less time failing at making johnny weir look bad.

Let’s pray together for that fifth of May, the person who comes out will be Evan Lysacek. Cross my fingers…

@Cam: aren’t they both white?

I like the way Evan carefully rolled up the cuffs on his jeans just so. and those boots!
Those photos posted by Sam — very hot. And tres gay.
My favorite comment was on the show Be Good Johnny Weir, when Evan said in an interview that he started calling Johnny “The Swan” after he saw his “weird performance” in Turin, so Johnny started calling him “The Mongoose” and Evan says, “I don’t even know what that is.”
Obviously, the two had some sort of relationship at some point, and it ended very badly, and now they are best bitches forever.

Fredo, isn’t it funny that all of those celebs where people said “There is no proof they are gay” like Clay Aiken, Ricky Martin, Jodie Foster, etc… well people were right. I am friends with a few people in skating and his sexuality is treated as fact, however, that aside.
He is a figure skater,
He doesn’t have a girlfriend or dates,
He is an olympic gold medalist, making money, going on the red carpet etc… and yet is never seen with a woman, isn’t reported as having gone on any dates, isn’t seen out at any clubs talking to women, isn’t seen leaving a woman’s house etc… he is an elite atheleat, in fantastic shape, in his 20’s hormones are pinging off this guy and yet he isn’t dating anybody? People like him, when straight are the first people that women like Kate Hudson, Cameron Diaz, as well as wonnabee hotties who want some red carpet time go for, yet nogthing, Come on. Richard Simmons and Anderson Cooper “must have just not met the right girl yet” also.
fredo777
@Cam: ok, calm down. my point wasn’t that i don’t also think he’s gay, but that’s just the point. i think he’s gay + plenty others do, but i’m not going to jump on someone’s case for not coming out b/c i assume they’re gay. as for jodie foster, i don’t even remember her coming out, but i can’t say i pay a lot of attention to celebs coming out unless they’re ones i ‘m already a fan of + whose work i follow.

Evan is so sexy and hot he´s talent more than johnny.
DTG
He’ll come out when (and if) he wants to. Until then, leave him alone and respect his space. If he wants to keep everyone at arms length about it, that’s HIS choice. As tiresome as some people may find closeted celebrities, it’s even more tiresome when nosy spectators preach and posture about it.
Sexy Rexy
I don’t even like Evan that much, but frankly I’m sick of Johnny’s whining and fame-whoring. His recent guest spot on Wendy Williams show was a low point.
Back to Evan: I find him woefully not hot. In the closet or out, y’all can have his POW-looking ass.
ossurworld
Lyksacock a mongoose? more like a snake in the ass.

It’s Evan’s choice, it’s none of our business. Btw, he’s now a much better skater & dancer. 🙂
