It’s a subject many still view as taboo: gay and lesbian members of the black church. In Holler If You Hear Me: Black and Gay in the Church, a new BET documentary, writer/producer Clay Cane visits Atlanta, Georgia to meet church members who have felt rejected by the church, such as Hannah, a 24-year-old living in a homeless shelter after being thrown out of her house for being a lesbian — and some who feel accepted, like Bishop Allen, who leads Visionary Church of Atlanta, an LGBT church.
The doc will premiere November 3. Watch the trailer below.

Thanks for this.
(And thanks for not posting a series of random Whisper posts, real or fake, and claiming that’s what anybody thinks.)

It’s just sad watching this.
SeeingAll
Probably a very interesting documentary.
Arcamenel
Fools the whole lot of them.
Alexis Barros
Stay away from church and problem solved. Just sayin.
William Meyer
No, but I do wonder why anyone would wear a pink blazer. Just tacky!
Terry Lawson
Why any gay person would WANT to go to any church is beyond me. Churches are for ass holes….
Braxtor Bradley
James Crum we talked about this yesterday

The black church isnt just about religion. But nice to know we homosexuals have each others back. ….wow!
mr mr
It isn’t easy when your church community rejects you. That being said, some of the biggest freaks can be found sitting on the front pew at church.

I’m Catholic but haven’t been to church since the mid 80s, I don’t need to be told my ‘lifestyle’ is sinful, yet again it’s been 30 years so maybe I wouldn’t, who am I kidding.
Bill Ligon
But you are talking to yourself, in a church that deny’s your existence.
DarkZephyr
The woman speaking at the beginning of the video, her views are certainly not exclusively from the Black Church. I was a Pentecostal in the Assemblies of God Church when I was very young and she sounds exactly like them and most of them were white. I am so glad to be away from Pentecostalism. I could never do that again.
DarkZephyr
@Xzamilio: I am happily agnostic and don’t see that changing any time soon. Especially when I watch this kind of stuff. Brings back memories of the Pentecostal Church and I just can’t do that ever again.
Captain Obvious
Permanent victims. It’s so hard being black.
I’m sitting in my house watching Supergirl and no one has burned a cross on my lawn yet.
Please post more “It’s hard being black.” articles. It’s really really hard. No one understands how much work goes into whining about a television show not having enough black people or making the death of some random unarmed black person all about how yourself by saying “It could’ve been me!!”.
QQ I’m unwanted in some churches and I should be able to go to ALL churches! #blackishard #thislatteisdelicious #blessed #whitedevil

Today is November 3 and I can’t find this program. It’s not in my TiVo guide and TiVo search doesn’t find it by title. Do you know what time it’s scheduled to be aired?

The Rev. Carl Bean of Los Angeles and a few other gay ministers from around the country started a denomination back in the 1980’s because of blatant discrimination toward black gays rooted in the black community as to the HIV/AIDS crisis flooding the community in the belief it was “gods”……..I won’t even bring it up because out of fairness, I would have to mention the two most infamous degenerates of the white community (the late Rev Jerry Falwell and hopefully the soon to join him in hell Rev. Pat Robertson). I do plan to watch this (I just set my dvr) and hope either he (Rev. Carl Bean) and others of that church are remembered and interviewed. It would even be nice to see ol’ Bishop Stallngs too.
Fuck that ol’ hip critical bitch of Atlanta, Bishop Eddie Long and his closeted lesbian side kick Bernice King.
Arcamenel
@Captain Obvious: You are either more of an uncle Tom than I first realized or you aren’t black. I’m thinking it’s the latter. Even a c**n would understand the plight of gay black christians.

@Captain Obvious:
OMG. Between this and the not believing White privilege and light skin privilege exists I just don’t even know what to say to you. Have you always felt like this and never said it before or have I just never paid attention to your posts?
