He saw the movie—he got a private screening, and he loved the film. You know, he gave James a big hug; he gave all of us a big hug.
Michael is still on his journey… But what’s changed with Michael, even since the film wrapped up, is that his version of spirituality and religion is a lot less dogmatic. He doesn’t speak out against gay people any more. He regrets many of the things that he said. He seems to be in a much better place. He just seems a lot happier, he seems a lot freer. And it’s nice to see that.
And I think that from this new perspective that he has, he loved the film, even though it doesn’t always portray him in the best light—I mean, it shows a man who’s really confused and searching for his place in the world, and a man who, even as he claims to be no longer into men, is still at times having relationships with men.
I think that he thinks that the film is a really important one because it brings up so many issues about sexuality, spirituality, and the quest for meaning and truth in the world. And it shows him in all his complexity… I think he appreciated the fairness of the film.”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
— Writer Benoit Denizet-Lewis in an interview with 429 discussing the film I Am Michael, based on an article he wrote about his friend Michael Glatze, the former gay rights activist and co-founder of Young Gay America, who denounced his homosexuality and became a minister

Eye Roll, that’s all.
QJ201
@Dev.C: Let’s humanize a conflicted misguided individual who spend years DEHUMANIZING gay people.
I’ll pass. More Hollywood “let’s feel good about ourselves for the “message’ move we made”

Well, you’re always relaxed after ejaculating in your pants while watching a naked James Franco.
…er…I’m told.
tdx3fan
If Franco wanted to get the gay vote then this is one movie he should have never gone near. I could care less how the anti-gay/ex-gay dude says or thinks now. Once you hit the anti-gay/ex-gay status based on religion it simply no longer acceptable to turn it down.
Tebn
I feel let down by Franco and else, with friends like that, who needs enemies?
Bellamy
Wow, never thought I’d ever want to throw rotten tomatoes at James Franco.
There is no such thing as “ex-gay”. Such a person is either
A) a heterosexual who stopped fornicating with other dudes, or
B)a homosexual who has brainwashed himself into thinking he is heterosexual.
Wearing blue contact lenses will never make your brown-eyes blue, and a homosexual playing heterosexual does not make him heterosexual. The “ex-gay” is only hurting himself.

Who gives a fuck about a gay man who turned into a homophobic Christian hater who has been demented by religion and still denies himself and his community? Might as well watch a biography of Jesse Helms.

Thursday: Michael Glatze is anti-gay.
Friday: Michael Glatze is gay.
Saturday: Michael Glazte is anti-gay.

@Kathukid: “…Might as well watch a biography of Jesse Helms.”
Well don’t give Gus, Franco, Justin Kelly, Quinto, and the twink guy any more ideas! We don’t need a redemptive, bear hug of a movie for the Sundance crowd!
Sadly too many post-adolescent gays will go see it just for the threesome. There was a calculated reason why it’s a major part of the marketing. Don’t let anyone try to convince you otherwise. If link doesn’t work, just Google: huffington post I am Michael!

Sorry, couldn’t link it!

That would be Huffington Post Live I am Michael!

Glatze is a closet case who can’t believe he got to hug James Franco.
Ogre Magi
This is why we should always hate christians
demented
James Franco is skeevy and pandering. I don’t know why anyone likes him, really.
@Bellamy: Why do you exclude bisexuals from that list? Maybe some of them are bi and simply choose to cut themselves off from a large chunk of their attractions. Which is not psychologically healthy at all, i add. But please, if you list the options, all options.
@Ogre Magi: I’m sure the Christians who support gay people, including their family members, are so happy to hear that all gay people “should” hate them.
jwtraveler
@demented: Well I’m one of many people who like James Franco.
While there are certainly many Christians who are supportive of gay people and gay rights, the public voice of most major Christian denominations is vociferously anti-gay and the people who are fond of proclaiming their Christianity publicly are generally those who like to use it as a weapon to attack LGBT people, and others.
PLAYS WELL WITH OTHERS
Franco is a bastard sellout. Proclaims he is very supportive of the Gays and then plays a lying d-bag in an movie that is beyond fantasy………
