I am glad they can finally be themselves in public. Its sad that DOMA is still in effect and keeping them from equal benefits. DOMA is a bane that needs to be stopped. I myself could have been with someone that I once loved if not for DOMA. :(

The chapter about Dan and Gary is excellent and the entire book reflects a generational shift. For these 32-year-olds, the issue of marriage equality, gender equality and freedom in sexual orientation is not inconsistent with military service. There is no liberal-conservative split in this generation.

Disclaimer, I am a co-author with Gary Ross in this book. Gary Ross was a classmate of our late son at the U.S. Naval Academy. There’s a chapter about our son in the book, too. At the last four book events in California, we’ve talked about Gary and Dan. Gary is a patriot and has bravely served our country, both on the issue of Gay Rights and as a naval officer.
