Export, Import

The Netherlands denied 19-year old Iranian Mehdi Kazemi’s asylum appeal. He will now head back the UK, which may send him back to Iran, where he likely faces death. [UK Gay News]

There has got to be something that can be done with this case! How do we put pressure on the EU countries to have this guy be offered asylum?

It is inconceivable to have this guy deported back to Iran knowing he is going to be killed or tortured at the very least. This is crazy!

“Export Import”? I do generally like this blog but would you consider not making snide headlines and comments about this kind of situation? I know that some of us have more important things to worry about than teenagers possibly getting executed for being gay — like fighting for the right of two rich privileged men to marry each other, for example, but please, can you at least not be snide about it?

I cannot believe the Netherlands is willing to gamble with this man’s life.

This story is heart wrenching.

I hope the international attention will save his life.

But then, how many Medhi’s are still in Iran?

Thinking about this reality makes me very sad.

There must be more than a million gay men in Iran who remain closeted. If this sets a precedent, imagine them flogging to the Netherland?

Although I understand the logic of your statement… What is the option in cases such as Mehdi’s? Do we let him be deported to his death? For what? He did not commit any crime besides wanting to love another human being.

I think the EU can handle a few more “gay” citizens. As a general rule, we are well educated, accepting of others, and we are productive citizens. What else can be expected of an immigrant?

This is absolutely INSANE!
