Facebook Founder Chris Hughes + Freedom To Marry’s Sean Eldridge Are Engaged

Chris Hughes, the 27-year-old Facebook co-founder (worth an estimated $500 million!) who went on to work on Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, and has since started the philantrhopic social network Jumo, is engaged to his boyfriend Sean Eldridge, the political director of Freedom To Marry. Naturally, they made the announcement — surrounded by friends/guests like Ivanka Trump, Simon Doonan and Jonathan Adler, Christine Quinn, Jared Kushner, and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman — at a Freedom To Marry fundraiser at their SoHo loft. “This is very timely for Chris and I to have you here tonight to celebrate marriage and work on marriage,” Eldridge told his guests. “”We got engaged two weeks ago, so there is a real sense of urgency. As you know, we can’t get married in New York, so there is more of an urgency to approve gay marriage, so we can get married here. We’re going to get married in the next year or two for sure — we’re hoping as soon as possible.” Well, at least they have some skin in the game now! Congrats, gentlemen.

@alan brickman: I disagree…My parents have been married more than 2 1/2 decades and they do not fool around on the side. This myth that all straight people are screwing around, is just that…a myth. Some people actually can be monogamous, regardless of what that cad Dan Savage has to say about it…I certainly couldn’t stomach being in a relationship with someone who fools around…does that make me a freak??

@ Afrolito, they cannot marry in New York, but the law in New York is that they can get married elsewhere, and have the marriage recognized in New York. That was the view of then AGs Spitzer and Cuomo, and current AG Schneiderman.

Odd that none of this was mentioned in Mr. Hughes carefully choreographed recent appearance on the Stephen Colbert show. Were he straight, his engagement would’ve been a topic of conversation. Nothing about his bf or what he does in terms of marriage equality for gays. Guess Hughes wanted to reach Middle America with his Jumo, but not really divulge details that may turn them off to his new venture. And I wonder if the bf is the gold digger in all of this… Will they be putting some of that 500 million dollar fortune to aid other gay causes? Or is Hughes just tired of not being in the media and having to see Mark Zuckerberg plastered all over?

OK I have no idea who these two guys are. I’m glad they’re in love and I hope they are married for the rest of their lives. So, (much over used phrase coming up…) having said that, I’m guessing the “smart” Multi-Millionare guy is the pastey one in the white shirt. The darker, more excited to have his picture taken, guy seems like he has none of the worries that come with being worth $500,000,000. The darker one also seems like he would think he could give each American $1,000,000 and still have $200,000,000 left over for spa facials.
