I have to say that this news did not surprise me when I read about it the other day. It was a monumentally stupid idea to try and hold an event like this inbetween two of the biggest celebrations the country has seen in a century (or more). People who donated to war-hero charities, attended Jubilee celebrations or stumped up for tickets for the Olympics are not going to want to spend more money in the country’s most expensive city! It’s a shame, of that there is no doubt, but with those events and an economy that still sucks (Europe is the proof that austerity measures alone do NOT fix an economy. The only ones to be close to being out of the hole are the Germans, because they understand you have to spend money – wisely of course, not just throwing it around willy nilly – to make money. They’re practically single handedly keeping the Euro afloat)
