Fallen.

Anti-gay televangelist Jerry Falwell made scads of money in his day, but a $20 million investment in a failed “Christian community” left the right-wing leader nearly penniless at the time of his death last year. [NYDN]

Maybe it was the “faith-based…supermarket” that made the town project unsuccessful. I think eating pig three times a day will kill you. But you can’t just live on psalms and homilies either.

October, 2007. My brother and I built and carved everything we needed to spook up my front yard for halloween. Upon completing an awesome looking but very cheap ghost, we decided to name it. Fallwell had just died, so rather than allowing him the honor of resting in peice, our joke because that I had captured Jerry’s soul…and it now resides on my front porch.

Fortunately for him, Jesus allegedly loves losers, too.

You know what the greatest part is? A man like Falwell would never make decisions that big without pryaing extensively on it, without being sure that his God was telling him to do it. Jerry Falwell went to his grave leaving nothing for his family, completely forsaken by the hateful entity he spent his life (and made his lost fortune) supporting.

So God does answer prayers: Mine. :D

And just where is this “community” and how was the “missing” money spent. I think the IRS should look into this one.

You reap what you sow, but I also doubt he died as destitute as claimed, he lived a very comfortable life off of the gullible.

I’d like to be living as well on my AIDS disability income as “nearly penniless” Falwell was living before he kacked off. How much is nearly penniless anyway?

i could have sworn falwell left around 23 million to his family and had another 23 million in life insurance that went to the church and school.

according to the comments to the original article he didn’t die broke and people are living in the houses in the housing project and the university is going to build more to house married students.
