Queerty is better as a member
Accomplished so much. No wonder the right hate her, they loathe working, moral intelligent people.
Yeah, but Gore Vidal and Maurice Sendak weren’t lesbians. Clearly, if they were they were, they would have died much younger. After all…. the FRC did “research” on it, so we can trust it.
What a bunch of idiotic bullshit.
As the tide turns more our way, these folks, like that bishop yesterday counseling parents should abandon their gay kids, will be giving off the increasing stench of desperation. We’ve long known they’d go down screaming, haven’t we?
My sister in-law is a lesbian and she’s an obese alcoholic mess. I don’t doubt that lesbians die way sooner than straight women.
Stupidity prevails……and if you are gay or lesbian, than 1 + 1 equals 11 right??
@stadacona: And your compassion toward her is just so beautiful. You are a light on the hill…..
The things presented in this article are about cynicism and contempt by those who don’t like what they see.
To contradict their intent, consider the following biblical expressions.
This is how all of us LGBT’s should be considered and treated.
These verses are either paraphrases or translations, 3 are from Paul and one from Peter —
1. Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.
2. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.
3. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
4. Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another; be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.
This reads like an article from The Onion.
So let’s see if I have this right. Lesbians die in their mid ’60s. But married women die in their early to mid 80′s. So if lesbians were allowed to be married, they would live another 15-20 years. So opposing gay marriage, at least for lesbians means you want lesbians to die early. And who says you can oppose marriage equality without opposing the LGBT community?
Another piece of the proof to show that opposition to marriage equality is all about the hate and bigotry.
I don’t mean to sound disrespectful here but What Family Research Institute said was nothing.
One of the local missionaries from one of our right wing churches, here in Seattle, told my family that the Pang Arson Fires (back in the 90’s) was the result of ‘God’ judging Seattle for all the sin, abortions and gays that was going on in Seattle at the time. She made this statement just four months before authorities caught the guy. The tragic thing was there were four fire fighters who died in one of Mr. Pang’s fires. Three months after they caught Mr. Pang , I asked her how this how gay people and abortions, and people sinning in Seattle caused Mr. Pang to set these fires. She and her husband had no answer but to flatly deign what she had said earlier. They were arrogantly offended that someone would call them on their bigoted remarks. So it does not surprise me when the Family Research Institute comes out and says dumb things like this. It really spits in the face of their ‘God’ and the Bible where it says it’s a sin to lie or bear false witness, when they plainly do such things.
@D9W: D9W…can we stop quoting the Bible as if it’s some pillar of fact? It’s absolutely no different than a fairy tale. Why we use it, moreover, QUOTE it (any parts of it) as a way of living and way for wisdom is beyond me. Truly.
It’s a belief. A chosen belief, none …and I mean zero of which has been proven. But many parts of it have been disproven, as well as the claims throughout the years by it’s followers of the rapture …and dates they provided from reading the bible of raptures. Of course, those dates, much like the Bible, proved to be false.
That book is barely a standard to live by for all.
The Family Research Institute’s ill concealed “hidden agenda” is to warn women not to “go lesbian” because it will shorten our life expectancy.
Queerty, with its “gay agenda” insists on labeling Sally Ride “a lesbian” when it doesn’t know how she identified her sexuality.
Then in regard to longer than average life expectancy for queer people Queerty offers us no examples of any famous LGBTQ women living beyond the average but gives us two examples of LGBTQ men who did and died this year instead.
And when the great Mexican singer Chavela Vargas – who did publicly identify as a lesbian – died aged 93 in August this year, it didn’t even get a mention on Queerty
Has anyone at this loony bin of a fundamentalist “think” tank ever heard of post hoc reasoning?
@Reality101: Re 12 “can we stop…..
I’m trying to think of a few simple things about the Good Book that will be a useful response to your comment, “Why we use it…..as a way of living…..is beyond me.”
The comments are for gay minded folk cause that’s the way I think and reason things out.
Countries of “The West” and the year they’ve legalized same sex marriage —
These are all predominately “Christian” nations.
1. Netherlands ’01
2. Belgium ’03
3. Spain ’05
4. Canada ’05
5. S. Africa ’06
6. Norway ’09
7. Sweden ’09
8. Portugal ’10
9. Iceland ’10
10. Argentina ’10
11. Denmark ’12
And as a side note, I’ve heard of no reports that any of these countries are self destructing or coming apart at the seams as some say the good ol’ USA is going to experience if gay marriage is ever to be allowed by law.
We in the West are “blessed” with the dynamic influence of Protestantism, Catholicism, Judaism and other religiously sound minded and tolerant people including those who don’t believe in anything religious.
This is why “gay issues” are very well tolerated and what an absolutely wonderful thing this is.
And especially, wherever “mature Christianity” prevails, much love and tolerance towards LGBT’s also prevails.
So….we need then to ask ourselves, where did this thing called Christianity come from anyhow? Why is it so obviously a boon to gay folk?
The simple answer is that there “must” be some kind of “creator-God” or “creator-somebody” somewhere who’s behind all of this “tolerance” and “kindness” stuff towards us LGBT’s.
Now where does a “book” come into the picture? Why a book anyway? Just look at our libraries as an illustration. Books are history’s way of telling us things. So a book is a pretty good idea to create something durable that’ll last over many years.
So….the Bible can easily be imagined.
And the Bible and especially the New Testament is about a “guy” who says he represents this creator-somebody. And he talks pretty impressive and did some stuff nobody ever did before.
This “guy” and the “Book” that’s about him is responsible for Christianity and hence all of the warm and fuzzy things that radiate from it.
I realize that I’ve spoken idealistically here. Every Christian is NOT friendly to LGBT’s. Every comment in the “Book” is not friendly to gay folk.
Time and space won’t permit me to continue, but I’m sure you get the point that there’s something fascinating about this “Book” and what it is responsible for.
We should be thankful that somebody like him is spreading love around and thankfully some of it has rubbed off on us and those who like and respect us.
