Fashion Forward: Project Runway Designers Hit Fashion Week. Like, All Of Them

Since its inception the big highlight of Project Runway is when the finalists get to send a cohesive collection down the runway at Fashion Week. Of course, the segment is filmed months before the episode airs so some fake-outs are shown as well, to make sure nothing is given away too soon.

This season, producers really went overboard: Project Runway designers were scheduled to show their looks today at New York Fashion Week and, according to BloggingProjectRunway, nine contestants sent models down the runway this morning. PR likes to mix things up from season to season, but generally only three or four competitors are actually still in the running by the time they get to the tents. Nine collections is  a lot of work just to keep fans guessing. We don’t wanna spoil the fun—If you wanna know who’s in the mix, click the link above—but supposedly designer/Mick Jagger piece L’Wren Scott is this week’s guest judge.

As with many talent-based reality shows like American Idol and Top Chef, just getting on Runway—and especially having a showcase like NY Fashion Week—is worth more than winning the whole shebang. We’re sure the fake-out designers weren’t pissed they got to show in the same arena as Donna Karan, Derek Lam and Diane von Furstenberg—even if they’d already been cut.
