A high-ranking fire lieutenant from Lakeville, MA has been charged with raping his much younger co-worker.
51-year-old Thomas Dunlevy is a 20 year veteran of the Lakeville Fire Department. He is a well-liked, highly-respected figure in his community. Or at least he was until earlier this week when he was arraigned and charged with rape, procuring liquor for a minor, assault and battery and witness intimidation over an alleged incident with a 20-year-old subordinate.

“I was afraid. He was my supervisor. He was my lieutenant. And I looked up to him as a father,” Dunlevy’s alleged victim, who works part-time as a firefighter, told WCVB-TV.
How about we take this to the next level?

According to the victim, the incident happened during a work retreat at a campground back in 2014 when he was 20 years old. The victim says Dunlevy supplied him with alcohol then raped him inside a tent.
“I was underage,” the victim continued. “I was drunk. I was afraid of him. He was my supervisor.”

He said that when Dunlevy first climbed on top of him, it took him by such surprise he didn’t know how to respond.
“I didn’t know what was going to happen so I just froze up,” he recalled. “I couldn’t move. I just laid there.”
Afterwards, the victim says Dunlevy threatened to out him to his coworkers if he told anyone about the assault.
“If I ever mentioned anything, he would tell people that I was gay,” he said.
The intimidation forked for a while until the victim decided he couldn’t keep silence any longer.
“I want other people to know that it’s OK to come forward and they don’t have to be afraid of anything.”

In a statement, the victim’s attorney, Tyler Fox, called Dunlevy a “predator” who preys on young, impressionable young men.
“It’s a classic predator pattern where someone as my client said takes them under their wing, presents himself either as a father figure to protect them from something or to help them and ends up abusing them and sometimes these predators are in positions of power just so they can abuse people like that,” Fox said.
Lakeville Fire Chief Daniel Hopkins says he believes there may be other victims who haven’t yet come forward.
“There’s that potential from what I gather,” Hopkins said. “From the little that I know about the whole situation there have been names that popped up.”
Dunlevy is currently being held on $25,000 cash bail.

kill all the rapists…
or at least castrate the male ones.
Christopher Hayward
Rape is wrong.
Erik Lehrke
This headline is intentionally misleading. the Subordinate was 20yo, definitely NOT underage. The age of consent is not a direct corollary to the drinking age.

“The intimidation {forked} for a while until the victim decided he {couldn’t keep silence} any longer.”
Choose one: “couldn’t keep SILENT” or “couldn’t keep HIS silence”
Forked? Probably forked the poor kid for all of two minutes.
Seriously GET HELEN KELLER OUT OF THE EDITOR’S CHAIR!
lkeels
20 years old is neither a child, nor underage. What a load of crap.
oilburner
@Glücklich: I love the Helen Keller reference. The articles on this site have the worse grammatical errors.

This “rape” wreaks of bull shit. Ok, he climbed up on top of him. What happened next? Was he lying on his back or stomach when the guy climbed on top? Did they 6-9? Did he bottom for the guy? I don’t see where rape occurred based on what is being said by this “victim”.
I take a very dim view of these “post” reports of rape by these kids. Todays fifteen year old is not of the same mentality as when I grew up. Greed is what motivates more than ninety-percent of this shit about “I was raped when I was a kid” because they realize how much they can get if they win. Think back to the case involving the puppeteer from Sesame Street and those “victims” that, in my opinion, The only mistake he made was being nice to a bunch of young, lazy ass queens whom amounted to nothing in life and they know it.
It seems hard to believe that those of you over forty and are reading this can’t look back upon at least ONE time we did something while we were drunk and regret it but KNOW damn well it wasn’t rape. Whether it be the role of “victim” or “attacker”.
kzen64
No, I’ve never done anything to another person, drunk or not, that I regret.
And I think the tag on the article, “Bad Sex” is in extreme poor taste.
Daniel Salmeron
That headline is awful. What happened to that 20 year old guy who was on a trip with a fire department official was even worse
John Kuehnle
These headlines from Queerty are getting more silly and cheap. I’m not making fun of rape.
Poncho Sanchez
One can be of consenting age, and be raped (forced to have sex), but it does sound like the victim was rather passive. Many perps choose weak willed victims, so I’m on the victim’s side on this one.
Kangol
@lkeels: Not underage for sex but in Massachusetts (and every other state), underage for drinking.

@oilburner: The articles on this site have the worst grammatical errors.
Will Glitzern
Uh, no thanks…
Robothedestroyer
This is a little off topic but this article is part of a growing trend of articles that have been poorly edited. What’s up Queerty? Even if they are just auto correct mistakes, my college English professors would still fail the hell out of these articles.
kzen64
@Robothedestroyer: Cut and paste jobs from other sources. If you look up this story, you’ll see there are about 2 or 3 basic templates all saying the exact same thing. One person reported this story, and 12 others plagiarized it.
kzen64
Having friends who were raped, including my boyfriend, it is in such poor taste to link rape to ‘bad sex’
Glücklich
@kzen64:
Could be worse. Could be a Hearst newspaper (or any US paper anymore) in which seemingly 75% of the stories are AP.
But yeah, it’s a real clusterfork up in here.
JAW
@Erik Lehrke: I think the headline was suggesting he was under age for drinking
so he got him drunk and then abused him because he could not hold his liquor
The man is a sick sob

I shouldn’t have to say this, but absolutely any kind of coerced sex is wrong. Rape is wrong. It is ridiculous that you can die in war at 18 but cannot drink until you’re 21. I do not believe the vast majority of people wait until they are 21 especially guys, so this part of the story is BS. I don’t believe a 20 year old can be a firefighter and that “afraid” but maybe. Mostly, though I want to add a different take on this – this is what can happen when homosexuality is viewed as abnormal and people have to repress it. Please note I said “can” happen. Pretending to be straight, or hide or whatever is very mentally exhausting and unhealthy.
