For Being ‘Speechless’ From Prop 8, Tony Perkins Sure Has a Lot Emotional Bile to Unload

I guess having the Family Research Council’s chief Tony Perkins on your show still counts as “representing both sides of the debate”? Whatever. David Boies was there, and as usual quickly shut down Perkin’s entire argument. “There simply wasn’t any evidence, there weren’t any of those studies. There weren’t any empirical studies. That’s just made up. That’s junk science. It’s easy to say that on television. But a witness stand is a lonely place to lie. And when you come into court you can’t do that. That’s what we proved: We put fear and prejudice on trial, and fear and prejudice lost.”

Perkins, of course, disagrees. But asked on Face The Nation, even Perkins admitted there is no data saying gay parents are less capable of raising gay children — which doesn’t even have anything to do with marriage equality.

What an elegant and direct speaker David Boise is. Having a great lawyer speak for your side and speak the truth is grand indeed.

I’m just annoyed that Perkins got the last word. Because that is what sticks with viewers. “Let sanity reign.” blah blah blah.

I’m so sick of the back and forth. There shouldn’t BE any. It’s unconstitutional to deprive American citizens of their right to marry. Period. Done.

      …moving on…

I’m still waiting for these shows that want to represent both sides, regardless of how illegitimate and idiotic one side is, to start bringing on a grand wizard of the KKK to debate affirmative action. After all you want to make sure everything’s fair, right?

“”Laws that affect marriage, such as No-Fault Divorce, have hurt marriage.”

Well, DERP. What the fuck is your argument? Letting more people get married is the same as letting married people split up?

If there was a God, there’d be a lot more miscarriages.

Wow: Boies sure can argue well while still being a gentleman. Perkins? Cannot argue & is not a gentleman.

Why str8 people would be so preoccupied with samesex sex & marriage still makes no sense to me.

Not a perfect analogy, but: I don’t care for cats. Therefore I do not own one. I do not spend all day thinking about cats & I don’t care if you get one, and would not try to talk you out of adopting one. That’s none of my business.

“Jeffree” would be a great name for *any* pet, however ! :-D

Knowing just how many of these lunatic frightwing heads are about to explode over this ruling has made this such a pleaseant weekend for me…….. :-p

@ PlaysWell: Right! The fundie blogs and rethuglican pages are getting hundreds more comments on Prop B than other issues. Since it’s Sunday, I can imagine pastors handing out copies of talking points. I expect the gay blogosphere will continue to get comments as well.

They’re really runnin ascared, as you would say. Expect earthquakes in California, they keep saying. (D’oh!).

p.s.. yes, of course you’ll get invited to the Wedding. Low key affair with my 400 lovably crazy family members, and like 19 very fancy Swiss people, 55 overly caffeinated comedians/writers and a few friends. You’ll fit right in!

Perkins will find himself out of a job unless he can stir up some anti-gay supporters to fund his bizarre organization. And he isn’t able to do that by speaking truth or presenting facts, which is probably why they don’t make the Judge’s opinion available on their website.

I think they’ll find themselves increasingly marginalized over the next decade or so. I feel bad for the poor kids who end up going to a private Christian school where they teach doctrine and conformity instead of the Scientific Method.

Perkins is a dumb ass cracker. Did i make anyone happy by saying that? Is there gonna be someone telling me about the contributions of George Washington to defend their outrage? Whenever Perkins’ teeth are not showing and he attempts to smile, one knows he is internally upset. hahahahahahahahahahahahHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhHHHHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH.

Look at the “slim” turnout for NOM’s Big Bus Tour. What NOM & FRC are peddling, people ain’t paying for.

Doesn’t mean that some people don’t agree with them, but that it’s not one of their top priorities.

With unemployment so high, the economy shaky, two wars & everything else going on, people are focusing on trying to keep a roof over their head & food on the table.

Other problem: Mags & Tony seem like harsh inarticulate luna-ticks when their mouths open.

@ PlaysWell: Certainly the fundies haven’t figured out that Iowa and Argentina have been spared from disasterous plagues since they approved SSM. Iceland’s volcanic issues calmed down only after their PM married her galpal.
      Coincidence? Nah.

LOL, at the wedding, my mom may try to adopt you too :-) Watch out—she carries the paperwork in her purse at all times. Nope, I am neither prone to mania nor stalking. Just random singing of James Taylor or Sarah Vauhan songs,

Rather gay couples can raise children as well as straight couples is the KINGPIN of the whole gay marriage debate for MANY Americans. In the eyes of many Americans, marriage is a traditional commitment that is tied with having children. Its been a key argument for years that gays can’t raise a family and therefore don’t need marriage. How can you even begin to believe the two have nothing to do with each other?

@7: Actually, he claimed that they have hurt children. As a “divorce survivor,” what I can attest to is that having two parents trapped in a loveless marriage where they spend more time arguing than raising their children is detrimental for the child. It does more harm than divorce ever will. Still, this is irrelevant to gay marriage and actually serves as amazing examples of the already tarnished traditional marriage that is so “sacred” that it should never be harmed.
