Forget The Velvet Mafia. Meet the Muffia

The best thing about this Press article that tries to reverse the trend in NYC — where gay men are fawned over and gay women are an after thought — is definitely the new buzz word it coined: The Muffia. And if you’re going to say “Oh, I have been using that word for years,” you better back it the hell up, because we used The Google and all references to “muffia” are about porn, not elite lezzies.

Thanks for the link to this article. The featured artists seem very cool and I think it’s always important to have moments where we stop looking at the queer community as a group and focus on specific individuals. It breaks stereotypes and helps highlight the achievements of members of our community.

Simon Doonan used the term Muffia in Beautiful People. Watch episode one of the series loosly based on his memoirs.

Doonan used the term to describe men who had eyelifts and now looked like lesbians.
