Former Santorum, Romney Aide Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Male Cadets At The Citadel

Steven Munoz, a graduate of the Citadel who worked on the presidential campaigns of Rick Santorum and Mitt Romney, has been accused of sexually harassing two male cadets while at the prestigious military academy.

The cadets, who are still enrolled, both claimed in reports filed last week that Munoz made unwanted advances. One reported that, while they were in his room watching The Patriot, Munoz massaged his shoulders, put his hand on his inner thigh and—when the younger student rebuffed him—groped his genitals.

Allegedly, 23-year-old Munoz then said “it was more okay for guys to be with guys sexually before marriage than to be with girls, and that God would be less angry at the two guys messing around than a guy and a girl.”

We’ve heard that one before.

The second cadet claims Munoz made a move in February 2011, when they were getting ready to go to the neo-con nirvana known as the Conservative Political Action Conference CPAC). “The victim told police the suspect then walked over to him, grabbed his face with both hands, and leaned in as if he were attempting to kiss him,” reports WCSC Channel 5.

At CPAC itself, Munoz and the second cadet shared a hotel room, where Munoz allegedly leapt on top of the cadet and pressed his genitals against his thigh. After a second assault a few days later, the cadet woke up and threw the suspect to the floor.

Neither student filed formal charges, fearing repercussions from accusing a superior officer. The Citadel, which has classified its investigation as “ongoing,” issued a statement last week:

“The phenomenon of superior persons exercising their authority over their victims has been widely reported across the country. Anyone can be a victim of sexual assault, however, whether they are a freshman or upperclassman. In addition, men can assault men or women, and women can assault women or men. In the cases recently reported, the alleged perpetrator is no longer a member of the Corps of Cadets, but could still attempt to contact students.”

According to Buzzfeed, Munoz work on the advance team for Rick Santorum’s failed presidential bid, and later did some event consulting for the Romney campaign on an ad hoc basis.

We always wondered what kind of gay guy would go to work for the Republican Party.
