Despite what Shaun Jacob Halper says, we Americans probably won’t be getting a gay President – or VP – for quite some time. It may be a different story over in France. The Socialist Party is reportedly courting gay Parisian mayor Bertrand Delanoë for the nation’s next presidential election, just another reason for backward Americaxns to hate the French. [365 Gay]

Doesn’t surprise me. The French are far more advanced than we are in every way, except greed and cornball religions. Great educational system and Thought (Foucault: one of the greatest gay thinkers ever). It’s a joy just talking to them. I was watching a movie where they actually portrayed King Philipe and Richard the Lionhearted as lovers (which is accurate,) Even as explorers or colonists the French intermaried with the people who they engaged.
I liked Sengolese Royal the Socialists candidate last time who almost won. This guy must be pretty good.

Well, as a french guy reading Queerty, i must say that we are actually quite late on a lot of subjects.
Segolene Royal didn’t get elected because she was a woman (and it turned out she wasn’t even believing in her program, although Sarkozy’s certainly no better). Plus there is a lot of homophobia in France. The only difference is that unlike what we can see in the US, it’s latent.
Many people will say to you that they tolerate gays as long as they don’t ask for a gay mariage or adoption.
We have the hate, but it’s not coming from religious nutjobs.
As for this guy, he is the mayor of Paris. And as much as I like gays, I don’t think he would be a good candidate. But we’ll see how it goes 😉

I’ve heard about the Socialist party courting Delanoe before, actually. And it makes me very happy to think that he could get a shot at becoming the first gay world leader. Bertrand Delanoe is very popular in Paris (and he’s survived an assination attempt), plus Nikolas Sarkozy isn’t doing any favours for his party, so I reckon the French will be ready for a change when the next election rolls around.

Alco:
Don’t you think that the French people would be more inclined to vote relative to someones’s program, and more inteligently than large numbers of people here who would be twisted by these bizarre religious proclivities.
I never read anything about Royal’s sex affecting her popularity.
Also I’m not so sure that I like Sarkozy much at all. From what I see, he is far more of a right wing candidate than the people would be happy with. It seems bezarre that he would like Bush. I’m probably pretty naive.

I recall that when I was in high school about the only connection I had with a gay reality was Genets’ Books, left at home by my older brother. there are a number of well respected gay intellectuals… Just brought this up since I came across a biography.
