On Saturday, the band Garbage paused in the middle of its concert at Detroit’s Majestic Theater to let a fan propose to his boyfriend onstage.
Lead singer Shirley Manson explained how Dominic had been supportive of a sick friend of the band, and her desire to thank him for his efforts.
“As it happens I was on my Facebook page yesterday, I was on the tour bus and I was going through messages as we do,” Manson told Dominic onstage. “I saw this message from your boyfriend, Scott, and he told me that you were really super amazing.”
Manson then brought Scott out and he popped the question to Dominic, his boyfriend of four years. As the crowd goes wild you can hear Dominic shouting an emphatic “Yes! Yes!”
How about we take this to the next level?
Our newsletter is like a refreshing cocktail (or mocktail) of LGBTQ+ entertainment and pop culture, served up with a side of eye-candy.
Spinner reports that, as a final homage to the loving couple, Garbage dedicated the song “Vow” to Dominic and Scott.
Currently, Michigan has a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage but a judge has delayed ruling on a a challenge to that law until after the Supreme Court rules on marriage equality.
Garbage continues its tour of North America with its latest album, Not Your Kind Of People.

I love Garbage and have for many years now. I’m seeing them in Vegas in a few weeks and I’m really looking forward to it. That said, Vow is probably one of their least romantic songs considering it’s about revenge. Then again, I wouldn’t be picky about any song that the band personally dedicated to me.

I have to say, that video brought a tear to my eye and while much of the emotion stemmed from the proposal, MORE of my emotional response came from the cheers from the crowd.
I KNOW that the SCOTUS and US Senators and Congressmen/women probably didn’t watch
this video, but if they DID or DO, they will see exactly WHY gay marriage IS coming,
whether due to a Supreme Court (or any other court’s) ruling, or by vote, CLEARLY
the younger generation understands how important MARRIAGE is to gay folks.
BRAVO to Garbage for doing this and a big THANK YOU to the fans at this concert who
openly embraced and accepted the declaration of love in such a public forum.
Congrats to the couple too! 🙂

What beautiful gestures all round. So generous of the band to share their time on stage with these two gay boys. This is social change in action. Very moving indeed!
