I worked with Ambassador Guest in Romania and simply wanted to thank him for taking this stand. I was there as he lived his life openly as a gay man with his partner -- a very new thing for the Romanian people who witnessed this. Some with great surprise, others with disgust however most with respect for a man who did in fact work countless hours toward improving US/Romania relations, their emergence from decades under Communism and their entrance into NATO and the EU.
He was not always popular but stayed the right course for the right reasons, leaving behind him a legasy that included new hope for our gay and lesbian Romanian brothers and sisters.
So, good luck to you Mike and I have no worries that you'll find a new fire to put out or just possibly, one to start under the desks of those who need to feel a bit of heat.
