Gay Art’s Got Heart

shererrobert_pyro_american_martyr-2.jpg
Above you see a pyrograph from Georgia-based gay artist Robert Sherer. For those of you not up on your Christian mythology, Sherer’s using martyr St. Sebastian as an allegory for the gay adolescent experience. Apparently Sebastian came up a lot in Sherer’s youth:

I remember several times when my friends and I tied guys to trees and shot them with rubber suction-tipped arrows…we always chose the most beautiful guys for this faux martyrdom.

Who wouldn’t?

See more of Sherer’s work here!

Thank you for exposing (hee) me to his work. Iconic, challenging, humorous, beautiful…
