Gay Guide to New York City Too Gay For Apple’s iPhone Store

Apple has rejected the iPhone app “Gay New York: 101 Can’t-Miss Place,” because, appropriately it features gay things about New York. Like go-go boys. And a snapshot of a naked gay sculpture painting on display at the restaurant Buddakan. Oh, and a picture of Sarah Palin making an ugly face. So not only did the app’s creator, travel writer Anthony Grant, manage to run afoul of Apple’s rules about naked guys, it violated its “don’t make fun of public figures” rules. Which is to say: Authentic apps about gay New York City will never be accepted.

Apple makes a good product, they should give the puritan shit a rest. Hey, Steve Jobs, this is America, I get to decide what I look at or don’t not you, you prude!

Unless this is specific to gay people, I don’t see the point. People act as if this is not a proprietary system, with a host of new legal issues for those who run the systems.

This is the problem with Steve Job’s control freak disorder. The fact that it is proprietary, D’Oh, doesn’t mean consumers can’t complain that Jobs should be such a fucking control freak.

Microsoft could restrict which website you visit with Internet Explorer too, but they aren’t as megalomaniacal as Jobs.

In fact, his iPhone is crappy as a phone because, once again, he has decided who you must use as a service provider. Here in the Northeast, if I can’t use Verizon, I’m not buying your crappy product.

And this is why I don’t support Apple, on top of the fact that I greatly dislike their products.

It’s sad, but the developer can easily create an iPhone web-app.

If Apple wants to ban apps that proliferate “inappropriate” content, then shouldn’t it ban web browsers – like Safari? :)

I’ve already pre-ordered my Droid Incredible. Despite its military state lockdown, the iPhone’s hardware is still very nice. But it’s not nice enough for me to let Apple dictate my every move while paying $100/month for crappy AT&T service. Oh well, to each his own, I suppose.

I am and have been a huge Apple fanboy for a decade. But I’m seriously thinking about switching to Android for my next phone. Apple has become too much of a bully control freak and their policies are holding back the pace of development on their own product. I’m sure enough drones will buy the iPhone that Apple won’t care that I’m leaving.

It is indeed a bit hard to get gay guide accepted by these straight Apple censors. Our first attempt was unsuccessful too. However Apple guys was kind enough and told us what exactly was wrong. Now we have our first 2 gay city travel guides published in AppStore with more to come. So it is doable even if you need to cut some of content out.
