I saw the first few episodes and thought it was irredeemably smug about being so “edgy” in that annoyingly self-congratulatory way of network shows. Basically, the same old shit network TV’s been flushing out for the past 40 years. It’s just sad that some fags are so bored with their lives that thhey have to believe that these shows are “campy.”

Leland Frances, I didn’t know Cherry was a Log Cabin Republican, all the more reason for me to continue to avoid DH. I’m sure the gay couple will be obnoxious or stereotypical “screamers”. It would be interesting though if the gay couple were to be the only emotionally balanced couple on Wisteria Lane.

You are right about “Brothers and Sisters”. What a really great program. I try not to miss an episode and will be adding the 1st season DVD to my collection. The “Brothers and Sisters” series reminds me a lot of the “Family Stone”, which was a very good movie.

Every character in this series is hugely flawed, so we can expect the same from the new gay couple.

We can also expect for drama’s sake that the couple will be diverse (interracial and/or huge distinction in personalities). It’s about time that TV had a functioning gay COUPLE, let’s just hope they aren’t desexualized…

There’s much to like about the show still, but re the gay, the very gay Cherry is a PIG! And not just because he’s a fag Repug. So far the only gay characters with more than a couple of lines have been 1. Andrew, a psychopath who hit a woman while driving, drove on, and she died, and he never showed any remorse. 2. A little girl’s beauty pageant coach who was more fem and childish than they were. 3. A child molestor.

So one can only shudder at what kind of gay “couple” he will create. Mrs. & Mrs. Carson Kressley perhaps? Ross the Intern & Bobby Trendy.

Contrast DH’s dated portrayal of gays with the gay characters on “Brothers & Sisters” that immediately follows it.

Fuck your Cherry, and not in the good way.

This was discussed at length on Horsey’s message board and the consensus from those who read and saw interviews was that Pyfrom was indeed trying to degay his character and was in fact coming off quite anti-gay.

I’ve only seen a couple of episodes and I didn’t think much of those. The characters were trying to be too ballsy and it came off as cartoonish, rather than over the top melodramatic like Dynasty was.

Interesting that there are plans for Andrew to return to his “evil ways” as a gay man. I seem to recall reading an interview with Shawn Pyfrom where he absolutely insisted his character was not “gay”, but was “straight” and trying to get back at his mother. I don’t remember where I read the interview, but for some reason I carried away the feeling that Pyfrom was quite homophobic and didn’t want to be known as a “gay” character in the series.

I used to watch the program, but after the first season lost interest and moved on to something else. I may tune in again to see how the gay characters are handled, and if they turn out to be the run of the mill stereotype or “evil”, I’ll probably take a pass.

And Shawn, you are cute, but appear to be very obnoxious in and out of character.

None of the female characters were turned into men, so I hope the male characters aren’t turned into women in an attempt to make them palatable to the audience.
