Sorry, I'm not totally up on this, but did they try to cut down on lesbian sex by putting all the lesbians together? Do "butch" lesbians not ever have sex with other butch lesbians? I'm pretty sure I know some couples that are both butch, though I'm not sure I've got that definition totally right.
In the spirit of Evelyn Harper (Hope Emerson) "lock'em up and treat'um all like a bunch of animals" just before Warden Ruth Benton (Agnes Moorehead) replied "get out of here" the sadism continues nearly 60 years later. Emerson's sadistic portrayal of a lesbian guard won her an oscar nomination (she was robbed) and Eleanor Parker won for best actress playing a young innocent who finally relented in the end to those women. IT IS A MUST SEE IF YOU CAN FIND IT ON AMC OR TCM.

I'm not sure why this is a shock. Prisons have segregated by Race for decades.
