Gay Rep. James Martin: ‘I Proudly Cast My Vote In Support’

repjamesmartin

Rep. James R. Martin testifying on the Maine House floor (rush transcript): “I’ve been with my partner 14 years. … I’m sorry he could not be here today to witness this debate. … Next year will be the 10th anniversary of [our commitment] ceremony. I’m hoping that on that 10th anniversary we’ll be able to make it legal. I hope … that we’ll be able to say, ‘This one’s for real.’ … I will proudly cast my vote in support.”

Rep. Steven Butterfield: “I stand here not to make history but to get out of the way of it.”
