Montanans have not generally been known as the brightest streetlamps on the Boulevard, but by and by, ever so slowly… they come around, bless their hearts!

I’ve been there in winter & think sodomy would be one way to keep warm in minus-30 degree weather. Maybe that swayed a few votes.

The title is a bit misleading. Gay sex has been legal since 1997 when the state Supreme Court struck down Montana’s anti-sodomy laws. And even if that hadn’t happened, it would have been legal since 2003, when the US Supreme Court struck down anti-sodomy laws as unconstitutional. What happened here is that an obsolete (i.e. unenforceable) statute was removed from the books; the statute wasn’t law. So the move was entirely symbolic (not just largely symbolic).

Sorry, but this confusion between law and statute is one of my pet peeves.

@Machip: Thanks for the clarification. I suppose that even though it was symbolic, it shows that there is a shift in public opinion, perhaps?

@DOFEK: But you are fine with Black and Latino Republican Christians that discriminate against gays? Is Dr. Ben Carson your hero?

What does the skin color have to do with it?

@Vallin- I would not go so far as to start a harem OR go through with a plan to invade the state and sodomize the Helena out of it. I was thinking along the lines of sending a dildo or Larry Crag or something like that. Personally I think it’s going to take more than change the law to bring them into the twenty first century.

Btw, Queerty editors – nobody in Montana says “y’all.”

They may have a lot of cattle but they don’t have southern accents up by the Canadian border.

@the other Greg: ROFLOL!!! One would THINK they would have figured that out on their own, lolol. Having been born and grown up in North Dakota, I can ASSURE you that everyone ten miles south of the Canadian/North Dakota border speaks with a distinct “Scandinavian” accent, Don’tcha know?

…yes those Montana-folk have such a beautiful country, (as part of the US, I know) and get quite easily shocked and react violently towards homosexuality…but the point is I wonder what kind of GAY-scene is available in Montana?
